RAILROAD PHOTOGRAPHY @ DAVIS BROS.
Both my brother and I have taken pictures of trains for most of our lives. Here, we will post some of those photos. A number of older photos may be seen on another part of our vast site, operated by my brother Will. Here, we'll see some newer images from Ohio railroading.
CSX was known for having a number of GP-30's left around, some having been converted to control cab slugs. Here's one of them, mated to it's "mother", a GP-40-2, operating near the south end of Lorain, Ohio on a winter day.
Another great time of year for train watching is Fall. Cooler temperatures, vibrant colors, the winding down of summer activities, all make for an atmosphere that, to railroading fans, is ideal for trains. And, when you have a photogenic favorite train watching spot like we do, the pull can be irresistable to go!
Here is one such spot, our favorite. Along Conrail's Central Region, on the Dearborn Division's Chicago Line, is a little town located at milepost 199.8, called Olmsted Falls. This is the New York Central's former Water Level Route, and is still an extraordinarily busy line. This little town features a preserved 0-4-0, a great gazebo to wait for trains in, and many century old buildings to see. Just an awesome little town. Here, we see the first locomotive in a multiple engine hop, or "power transfer" move, heading westbound at Olmsted Falls.
