Known History

T'Kat was orphaned at the age of 6 months. Is is believed that she was the daughter of covert Romulan research scientists who had been secretly based on Mintaka III to observe the Mintakans. Although records are non-existant about exactly why the research scientists were sent to Mintaka III, it is widely believed that the Romulans had intended to improve and bring forward the Mintakan's weapon technology for the benefit of the Romulan Empire.
The location where T'Kat was found had been extensively damaged with signs of the Mintakan's crude and primitive weapons present. It is believed that T'Kat had been placed in a cloaked capsule by one or both of her parents for safety during the onslaught.
Severely undernourished and dehydrated, T'Kat was eventually 'found' by Ferengi merchants, who typically, had been monitoring the attack on the facility with the intention of beaming down to salvage whatever they could for their gains. Showing unusual concern for a non-profitable 'item', the Ferengi rescued T'Kat, but tried to sell her for profit on Tarsus III.
During an upgrade mission to Starbase 74, the Vulcan ship T'plana-hath IV intercepted the Ferengi activities and 'confiscated' T'Kat. Crew member Saraak was given charge of the rescued Romulan who, on return to the Vulcan homeworld, presented her to his parents, Sharek and T'Nan.
T'Kat was brought up as any other Vulcan child and as is customary with Vulcan children, she undertook the Kahs-Wan initiation, where children are left in the wild to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, T'Kat (being Romulan) did not fare well during this ordeal and, fearing solitude, sought the company of others by making contact with a Federation archeologist who had been commissioned by the Elders to study Vulcan history. The archeologist filled T'Kat's head with stories about Starfleet and a Vulcan named Spock. As a result of her meeting, she decided that Starfleet was the place she wanted to be.
From an early age, T'Kat showed greatly advanced telepathic abilities for a full-blooded Romulan female. T'Kat's advanced abilities have been studied and commended by Vulcan Elders.

Timeline

2351: T'Kat attends the graduation of one of her adopted brothers (Shretel) at a Vulcan High School and is inspired by a younger 'Vulcanized' Romulan named T'vek Nnerhin Jatal, who was also graduating.
2373:
T'Kat is traumatized by the death of her brother Saraak when he is killed in the onset of the Dominion War. As her emotions take over, this is her first realization that she is not a true Vulcan.
2379:
T'Kat is accepted as a transfer student to the Academy and she and another student, Lavvik, are transported to Earth to begin their studies.
2380:
T'Kat again meets T'vek Jatal through a mutual friend (Lavvik).
2382:
T'Kat completes her studies at Starfleet Academy and accepts the position of Ensign aboard the Saber Class ship USS Chuchill, escorting Ambassadors and dignitaries to local destinations. T'Kat finds these duties uneventful and requests a transfer to more 'meaningful' duties. Initially, she is refused transfer. Whilst undertaking a routine trip to Bajor for a medical conference, T'Kat is given charge of a group of medical dignitaries. Undeterred about her transfer needs, she uses her advanced non-contact telepathic abilities to 'persuede' Chief Gerontologist Ghee P'Trell to sponsor her transfer.
2383:
T'Kat is sent to Gamma Tauri to await her transport to the USS Tethys NCC-76503, docked at Starbase 212 and captained by Commander T'vek Nnerhin Jatal.
