The Medal of Honor is given to only those serving Starfleet who in the course of duty, distinguish themselves in a combat situation, far above the call of duty. The awardee usually has put his life in very grave danger to save the lives of others or to achieve military success. This award is presented only by the president of the Federation. Enlisted personell with this award are saluted in situations where saluting is appropriate.
The Medal of Peace is given to those that make great personal sacrifice to the cause of galactic peace. The awardee usually has accomplished a task very significant such as avoiding a war or losing an ally.This award is presented only by the president of the Federation. Enlisted personell with this award are saluted in situations where saluting is appropriate.
This award is given to those, that in the line of duty, under personal sacrifice, perform an act of valor in a combat situation. This award is given only to those individuals that have made such an act of valor that is just short of presidential recognition. The star level of medals are only given to those individuals that make extreme sacrifices that benefit Starfleet and the Federation as a whole.
This award is given to those individuals that have gone to great lengths to further the causes of peace in the Federation. This award is given to only those that make the largest strides towards peace.
This award is given to those, that in the line of duty, under personal sacrifice, perform an act of valor in a non-combat situation. This award is given only to those individuals that have made such an act of valor that is just short of presidential recognition.
This award is given to combat pilots who distinguish themselves in combat beyond the call of duty. The award must be earned in combat and is often awarded to pilots who achieve ace status. The cross level of medals are only given to individuals that have exemplified themselves above and beyond the call of duty to the benefit of Starfleet and the Federation.
This award is given to those that under command situations, distinguish themselves in combat situations. The recipient must have used a unique tactic or tactics to win the day.
This award is given to those, that in the line of duty, under personal sacrifice, distinguish themselves in a combat situation. This award is given to those who show bravery, honor, and esprit de corps.
This award is given to those, that in the line of duty, have performed above and beyond the call of duty in their shipboard duties. This award is given to those that excel far above the norm and give the extra effort in their careers as Starfleet crew members.
This award is given to those, that have in some way or another made a great discovery to benefit the Federation and Starfleet. Examples would be an engineer developing a new warp core containment system, a scientist discovering a new chemical, a doctor finding a cure to a deadly disease.
The first in the Medal of Acheivement series of medals, the General Medal of Acheivement is a catch all for all awardees that dont fit into other medallion categories. This is especially true for some command staff, operations, security, and tacitcal departments. This award like the other Medal of Acheivement medallions are given in recognition of inovative solutions to problems that arise in the course of duty. The other medals are classified more to individual fields and are usually a little more tougher to earn.
The Starfleet Commendation Medal is the lowest in the official tiering system used by starfleet and is given to personnel that consistant perform above average in their duties. It is often give for unusually high skills qualifications scores, outstanding performance reviews, or minor acts of bravery and or extraordinary performance.
The Hero of the Federation Medal is an unusual one in that it is only awarded once, can be upgraded, and is usually an award that represents a long period of fine service to the Federation and Starfleet. Very few wear this pride and fewer still can claim the honor of Hero of the Federation, First Class. The ribbon is only worn on less formal dress attire. When very formal dress attire is worn, a red sash with yellow pipping is worn in its place. Hero's of the Federation often become venerated in the historical annals as heros that made a big impact on the survival of the Federation.
This medal is given to those that sustain injury in the line of duty. Unlike previous versions of this award where it could only be awarded in a combat situation, the awards has been extended to individuals making sacrifices in the name of peace, or individuals making sacrifices in the name of discovery.
This medal is given to those that are taken prisoner by an enemy force or for political reasons. The person must have acted honorably and not given any information or signed any oathes of allegience during their captivity.
This ribbon is given to those that serve in BOTH the alpha and beta quadrants during their starfleet career. Service in each must have been for at least one solar day and in one for at least 6 months. This is a very commonly worn ribbon in starfleet meaning nothing more than a person has made it through boot camp.
This ribbon is given to those that have served in the Delta quadrant. Service must be for at least one month.
This ribbon is given to those that have served in the Gamma quadrant. Service must be for at least one month.
