Hurricane Isabel ravaged northeastern North Carolina's coast after coming ashore on North Carolina's central coast, heading in a north-northwest direction. The hurricane produced sustained winds in excess of 85 m.p.h. for over six hours, with rare gusts reaching to over 115 m.p.h.
