After Akima was born her father took up a position at a minging station on the boarders of the Alpha/Beta Quadrant, and so they packed up and moved the following week from Earth when Akima was still an infant. Seven years later, her father was laid off, due to cut-backs in the mining industry, and they were forced to settled to a planet no less then seven light-years from the mining colony. Akima was only seven when they left, and while she was there, she learned how to help and to care for other people other then her two parents. Which gave her an incentive to go to medical school. Her friends told her that the best school for her to learn and gain experience would be Starfleet medical on Earth. She was hasitant to go at first since she had never really seen earth before in her life. Akima was just too young to remeber what it was like, but nevertheless she still wanted to go to the finest Medical school. She requested admittance and was accepted two weeks later. At the age of eighteen she began her studies and graduated with her class in 2371. Six months later that same year, she was transferred to a Star Base medical facility. Where she stayed for 4 years before being transferred to an active Star Ship, the Horizan.
The Star Base Akima was stationed at, specialized in Alien pathogens. With so many Alien ships and races passing through the system, Star Base 473 was no secret to the medical universe. There wasn't a day somebody or some medical station wasn't trying to get their hands on a new formula or Antibiotic for there own medical supply.
Akima's training involved all that she learned while station at Star Base 473, including extensive training in Exobiology and Xenobiology. As well as some planetary and starship medical tactics. |
