USS JASON WWII Joins Occupation
Task Force to South Korea 1945
The USS Jason sailed from Ulithi to the Leyte Gulf P. I., then to Okinawa, at this point joined a
three ship task force consisting of the USS General Hodges (troop Transport), the USS Whitney
(submarine tender) and the USS Jason ARH-1 to occupy the southeran portion of South Korea. Shortly out of Okinawa we ran into forty to sixty foot swells, an experience for all.
The three ships went up the narrow straits and anchored off, then Jinsen Korea.  We lost our first
and only sailor, fire fighting party went ashore to fight a fire and a brick wall fell on him.  Sailors from the USS Jason were given side arms and a rifle and sent ashore to provide security for the
trains. The security force included Supply Dept. personnel.  The cruiser Alaska steamed in two weeks later.  The Tide table was 20 feet or better and proceeded to tie the Jason anchor chain into a huge knot.
