While his aptitude is beyond reproach it remains to be seen whether he is able to be an effective commander of his staff and crewmates as well. Physical Description: Grant is a tall (6'1") well built and imposing figure, sandy blond hair and slightly darkened skin. His most noticeable feature is his long moustaches, sideburns, and beard he wears in the style of 19th century Amercian fashion, Starfleet regulations be damned. Character Description: While his personality and demeanor seem to be one of a man out of the past, his technical knowledge and instincts could be considered ahead of his time. He is brave and honorable to a fault, always willing to take blame for anything that goes wrong in his department regardless of the circumstances. He often experiments with new engineering ideas and concepts but is strictly "by the book" when it comes to the actual running of the ship. His personality often makes him comes off as humorless and distant with his crewmates, but those who manage to get close to him could not ask for a more warm and loyal friend. Character History: Grant comes from a proud and historic family line that traces its heritage to the American Civil War. With a natural aptitude for history and engineering, he enjoyed a nearly perfect grade average at Starfleet Academy, where he met his wife-to-be, Anne. They decided to stay on at the academy together as instructors, but Anne was soon offered a position on the new ship USS Voyager, and was lost in their efforts to return to the Alpha quadrant. Distraught, Grant sought reassignnment and was chosen for a cultural exchange program with the Tamarians due to his education and training. After his time with them he still often slips into speaking in metaphor even after his return. Following several other assignments he has been given his first Chief Engineer position about the new Odyssey. |
