news...
8.5.03 - first off: i have a mullet. yup. secondly, thanks to all who turned out for the show on my birthday. it was awesome. special thanks to all the bands: karen, chopper sick balls, contravene, and majorityrule (especially majorityrule, who despite not calling me till right before the show [heh] are really genuinely awesome guys... thank you thank you thank you). if you haven't heard their new album, emergency numbers, yet, i highly recommend you do yourself a favor and get it NOW! okay, third of all, the rumors are true (if there are indeed any rumors), we be knives is in the process of producing a record. the ten inch release, to be titled, "get sliced!", will hopefully be done by late september. it will be entirely independent (which should satisfy all you DIY kids) and will include six songs. hopefully there will be a CDep version of the vinyl as well. the drum tracks are being recorded now. word. my mullet is sweet. - andy
7.27.03 - okay. yes. so... obviously the snacktruck/ultradolphins show was cancelled. sorry. but it was the right thing to do. ... anyway, tomorrow is the big day. my birthday. and yes the show is happening. the lineup is: dead like everyone (or whatever their new name is), chopper sick balls, contravene (from texas?), we be knives, and majorityrule. word. it should be awesome. you should definitely be there. the showtime is scheduled for eight o'clock. but we all know how these things are. it maybe a little later. i got the knives in. they're tiny. so we've decided to instead save them for when we record our seven inch, "get sliced!" later this year. that's right kids, the first thirty presses will come with miniature toy knives. i'll try to get regular sized ones for the show tomorrow. but i promise nothing. well... i do promise rock and fucking roll. but i don't promise knives. i'm just saying maybe on the knives. well... i promise we be knives. but i don't promise toy knives. maybe on the toy knives. i'm stupid. i've also been drinking a little. uhm... so yeah. that's all for now. come to the show... it's going to be fucking radical. i'm gonna be so wasted. - andy
7.20.03 - okay, so... snacktruck and ultradolphins are playing here tomorrow night. but not ferdinand is opening. webeknives was supposed to play. but it didn't work out. however. we do have four songs now which i think are pretty sweet. the july28th (my birthday!) show might have fallen through...not really sure though. still trying to talk to the people at the crow's nest about that. if it does happen though, the lineup will be chopper sick balls, dead like everyone, we be knives, and MAJORITY-FUCKIN'-RULE!! should be goddamn awesome. also, we will have a special present to give out to thirty lucky kids at the show... customized WE BE KNIVES retractable-blade plastic toy knives! so you kids can safely stab each other while we play! hopefully this will happen and it will be a night of mirth and mayhem. i'll post the definite as soon as it's definite. word. -andy
6.16.03 - okay. so... yes. no is dead. sam and martin have their project, corpse violator. which i must say, from what i've heard, sounds really really fuckin' rad. evil, spooky, ambient, harmonic shit. it seems kinda like... a puppy getting its insides ripped out by a little girl who loves it so much that she can't bear to let it live. or something. weird. anyway. so there's that. and also... we be knives has resurfaced. or surfaced for the first time. or whatever. but yeah... the lineup is me, eric, matt, sam, and sean (from the classy dames). so far we have three songs and they're fuckin' stellar. psychedelic, goth-y, dance, punk. or something. but yeah. so i've updated that page a little. and there will be more in the future. in fact, i'll probably just move the whole webeknives page over to its own address and give it a serious makeover. and if you're in new mexico, this wednesday 6.18, today i wait (from michigan) is playing with the classy dames, and rok on robot over at the crow's nest on alameda. email me if you want info (or theclassydames@yahoo.com). oh, and on my birthday, monday 7.28, majorityrule will be playing at the same house. opening acts for that are: but not ferdinand (formerly dead man jaoquin), the classy dames, dead like everyone (the awesome new hardcore band featuring former members of makeshift), and the maiden performance of webeknives! word.
5.31.03 - wow. rent's due tomorrow. okay, so first off: i just got back from a two week road trip in which i saw pg99's last show ever. and yeah, it was the most amazing fucking thing ever. word. i also got to see against me! finally. oh yeah, and i wasn't allowed into canada. fuck the canadian border guards. assholes. serious assholes. uhm. this really has nothing to do with anything does it? okay so as for NO!. uhm... i'm not really sure. i think NO! kinda doesn't exist anymore. abell's not coming back. martin's going to germany and shit. and matt's got the whole 1-800-CAVEMAN thing going on. webeknives might actually come to fruition sometime soon, without jason that is. he's going to canada (apparently they'll accept him, just not me) where he hopes to start Chastity Belt Called Honor. hope he does. wait, i got off track again. NO! fuck it. i think no's dead. which sucks. because i miss rocking. i hate not being able to rock out all the time with a band. that's the best feeling in the fucking world. and i don't get to do it regularly anymore. i'm singing (screaming) a song with the Classy Dames (formerly Fuck Nebulous Prose) and i might be doing vocals for 1-800-CAVEMAN (soon to be named something else now that jason's gone). but that's not for sure yet. everything's pretty much up in the air and uncertain right now. NO! doesn't seem to be getting together again anytime soon. we certainly aren't doing an album. still no drummer. and nobody's booked us for a show since october. and even that wasn't like someone actually seeking us like we meant something to them. the whole emo thing's pretty much taken over the scene here. all the hardcore bands are gone. not like i'm bitching or anything though. because that would suggest i actually tried to do something about it. i was just so busy with all the film stuff i was doing. we were all busy with one thing or another. even if we'd found a drummer i don't think we would've been able to play as often as we did last year and the months that preceded it. eric and matt and i have been talking about starting some new things band-wise. not really sure how that's going to work out though. i kinda feel like getting the fuck out of this town. i'm done with college. five years in the desert is enough. i just can't leave quite yet. but yeah, i really miss rocking. i really miss being in a band. i really miss screaming and collapsing and burning the fuck up with dear friends in a room full of music and kids and energy. meaning is so clear in such a moment. whoops. didn't really mean to turn this into a personal e-diary. anyway, if anybody's even reading this, is just wanna say that i hope what we did (if you were there for it) meant something to you. if you were there, you definitely meant something to us. and just know that punk rock is exactly and only what you make it. if you put in, you get back. and don't ever let anyone discourage you, be they trend-hopping traitorous poseur fucks, corporate monsters eating out the movement's heart and vomting it's face back up for re-sale, kids that were there and just lost the love (for whatever reason), authority figures who will never understand it, or even your own gathered and conditioned times of doubt. never let them stop you. this music (and the community evolving it) is one of the most important fucking things ever. it's not just a scene, or a phase, or an arena for posturing. it's even more than a movement. i see so much courage and love offered and gripped in it sometimes. sometimes that get's overshadowed by bullshit. but when it doesn't, when it rips through those curtains it flashes more than just potential and a good time. in those moments it showcases the realization of the dream, the actual synthesis of the hope and the conflict, the resolution of the struggle. the prize in brilliant pyrotechnics. so yeah. keep rocking. and if you want to contact me (for booking your band in santa fe, catching up on old times, or just shooting the shit) my new email address is jacksonmiss@hotmail.com. word. - andy (NO!01-03).
2.13.03 - okay, so i got bored. so i put up the webeknives pages, which is pretty ridiculous considering that none of us have had any time to practice lately (from both bands). i know, i'm an idiot. whatever. we're all pretty busy. so it looks like both NO! and webeknives will be on hiatus for at least another month or so. i'm directing a short film, acting in a play, playing in a jazz ensemble, working on the script for "unafraid of ruins" and working a part-time job on top of it all. so yeah, it's gonna be a while. but at least the website looks good. god i'm pathetic. - andy.
2.7.03 - okay, i tried putting up the pictures twice, but the friggin' scanners at the school's library are totally fucked. so no, i don't know when those will be up. in addition, some heartbreaking news. sarah has decided to bring her involvement with NO! to an end. which means, we are once again without a drummer. we do have some prospects, but at the moment we are all really busy with other shit. this sucks. we've been writing new songs like crazy. don't know when we'll get to play another show, let alone practice again. i'll try and keep this updated as developments... uhm... develop. that's all for now. - andy.
1.6.03 - okay, so i still haven't put up the new pictures. i'll try to do that tomorrow, but i'm making no promises. you may have noticed that i revamped the site a little bit. only cosmetic alterations for the most part, but i did add the obligatory "about" page. so if you're curious, that gives somewhat of an outline of the band's history, with a few... liberties taken in the creativity department. as for other news, like the album, shows, names, and such... i don't have a fuckin' clue. martin, sam, sarah, and matt haven't come back to town yet. so until then i'm just as in the dark as anyone. there was some talk a while back about a possible split 7" with matt's old band, new mexican disaster squad (which by the way, now has a link on our link page), but i don't think anything's come out of that besides talk. matt promised to send them our live cd when he was drunk one night, i don't think he's done it yet. uhm... the blood brothers are coming to albuquerque on jan.10th, so hopefully they'll actually make it to the venue this time. i'll be there. will you? - andy
1.4.03 - added a new link. shut up. -andy
12.4.02 - okay, so our Paramount show for next week is no longer our show. i guess i didn't get back to brooks quick enough and he scheduled our friends Hughes Red Shoes for the show instead. that's okay. it's finals week anyway and we probably wouldn't have had the time or the energy. however, brooks assured me that he'd book us for the first tuesday after our school's semester break is over. i'll get more info about that on here just as soon as i get it. so that's it. no shows for us for the remainder of the year. this semester we only played twice. which isn't so bad considering the major lineup changes and what-not. we probably won't be getting together again until january seeing as how we're all busy and probably all going to be in different places for the next four weeks after this coming one. which means i won't be updating the site much, if at all. i'll definitely get those pictures up, but that'll be about it. so see ya in 2003 everyone, with a new set, a new name, and new genitalia! - andy
11.30.02 - i put up lyrics for the two new songs on the lyrics page. i also added two great new links to the links page. one of them is a music video entitled "Consumption" to a song by Toby Slater. The other is an animation by David Stevenson and is just... super fuckin' bizarre and hilarious. They're both seriously amazing and they only use a frame system so it doesn't take a super long time to load and you don't have to save them to your computer to view 'em. watch both of them. immediately. still don't have a new name. and still don't have new pics up. and it will be a while before both of those are settled. we won't be playing the 12.3 show at the Paramount. But it looks like we'll be playing the following week, 12.10. two dollar admission, two dollar beers, two dollar pizza slices, two bands. word. also, for those of you in NM, go see either City of Caterpillar in Albuquerque on 12/6 or Trial by Fire (with Dead Man Jaoquin and Rok on Robot!!!) at warehouse 21 the same night. Both shows are sure to fuckin' rock. be at one or the other. that's all for now. - andy
11.22.02 - well, tuesday was a sad day for all. on november 19, 20002, the "united states" senate passed the homeland security act (hr5005) with only nine voices of dissent. this bill renders the freedom of information act impotent and introduces the final step towards 1984: the information awareness office. click here to see a picture of the totally Orwellian logo design for this new agency. talk about big fuckin' brother. those fucking nazis. we are totally fucked, people. now more than ever we need to "raise our kindred words skyward and rain them down upon their heads." seriously. i take this act as a declaration of war. this is total fucking bullshit. folks, if we don't fight back with our voices, this kinda shit will continue to happen and we will inch closer and closer to total self-destruction. in my own form of limp-limbed protest, i've added some very important links to the links page. check 'em out, it's stuff you should definitely know. i know it won't make that much difference, but maybe it'll raise a few eyebrows for now. for our friends in denver, city of caterpillar is playing tonight. check the level plane website for concert info. you should really go see 'em. they're fucking amazing. and don't worry new mexico, on 12/6 they'll be playing at a house in albuquerque. email if you want directions. well, we still don't know when our next show is. we might have one coming up in a week with Ben Ziegler's yet-nameless band at the Paramount. if brooks ever calls me. still don't have the new name, we're thinking of holding it off till we can play a few more shows with the established set and record it. then we can start on a totally new set and find a name that we can all agree on. so far the names that have come up are: arawak, czolgosz, mail order graves, if no then..., devoured by myths, machete, and l'attentat. anyway. that's all the news for now. oh yeah, we might be recording sometime this winter. smell ya later. - andy
11.17.02 - okay, so i threw up a hit counter (finally) and a guestbook and message board. so feel free to utilize those and tell us what you think of our music, the site, or anything else your heart desires. as for the new name, we're going to each write out around 5 ideas each and then have a meeting where we play the ol' elimination game. a couple of my personal suggestions are Arawak, and Czolgosz. or some variation on them. egh... i'm dumb. - andy
11.16.02 - so, it looks like we'll be changing our name soon. not exactly sure what it'll be yet, but we've all pretty much decided that without abell, it's just not really "NO!" anymore. that's not to say what we're doing doesn't feel right, but our sound is changing. things are getting a little more mature, not that we look down upon what we've been doing up till now, but we're definitely transforming, evolving. the new song we started putting together last night made it real evident that our music is definitely not the same that we started with. plus, as far as i'm concerned, it just doesn't feel right calling ourselves "NO!" without jeff here, i was hesitant to keep using the name when antoine left, and this clinches it. as for the pictures, no, they're not up yet. however, i have added the lyrics for the new "halloween" song on the lyrics page. so check back later for a new name, and hopefully some new pictures. thanks. oh yeah, we also might be playing a show at the paramount sometime in early december. - andy
11.6.02 - thanks to everyone who came to either of our halloween shows last week, they went really well. Althought The Blood Brothers could not make it on Halloween, we still think the night was a success and hope that maybe someday we'll get to play with them. Also, sorry about any confusion regarding American Nightmare. As it turned out, yes it was the same band, they just changed their name to American Nothing. They still fuckin' rocked and everyone who was there still had one helluva time. Oh yeah, and if we ever see that kid who was throwing matches again, he's fuckin' meat. still haven't gotten any more pics up and yes it will be a little while before i actually get to moving this here news page to the main page. not quite sure when our next show is but we're working on it. and for future reference if you want a cd, just email us at andysell@csf.edu and we'll hash out the details that way. again, thanks to all who turned up for the show(s), we really appreciate it. word. - andy
10.29.02 - well, after a great amount of confusion and many long distance calls to albuquerque, it has been confirmed, we are indeed playing the Halloween show with The Blood Brothers, American Nightmare, and the Feelers at Warehouse 21. so for all those wondering, wonder no longer, we will be there to rock the fuckin' house. we'll be the first band on, so no lollygagging around, be there on time. yikes, sounded kinda like my high school principal there... anyway, this show is going to be amazing. and please, bring some extra cash to pick up a blood brothers record, you will not regret it, i guarantee. sorry, we won't have any tee shirts to give out this time, we've all been just so fucking busy lately, but we will have cds. also, we'll be playing the College of Santa Fe Costume Ball in Studio 1 at the MOV building. thursday's going to be rough on me, kids, so if i start to pass out at the show, please understand. the pictures site is now up, i'll try to get some more photos on there sometime early this next month. as for anyone wondering when we're going to record in a studio... we have no fucking clue. that's all for now. - andy
10.21.02 - okay, so, there should be a write-up about the halloween show coming out in this week's Santa Fe Reporter, martin gave a couple cds to one of their staff writers. also, American Nightmare WILL be playing that night - the deal just got even sweeter. we hope to have cds to give out, but we're not sure we'll get the shirts done in time, so keep your fingers crossed. if you're coming to the show... please wear a costume. let's do this right. i'll be moving the news page over to the main page pretty soon. still haven't got those pictures scanned yet though. keep checking back. i'm really fuckin' busy right now. - andy
10.16.02 - exciting fuckin' news! it looks like the Halloween show will be held at Warehouse 21, where we will be opening for none other than Seattle's legendary spastic avant-garde rock'n'roll geniuses, The (fuckin') Blood Brothers! now if that doesn't deserve an "Amen", i don't have the slightest clue as to what does. word. this is gonna be so fucking awesome. - andy
10.13.02 - the Paramount Halloween show has been cancelled. We are still working on getting a venue for the actual Halloween show, but as we are all busy college students trying to graduate soon, developments are coming rather slowly, if at all. I hope to have pictures up by the end of the month, but if not, definitely in November. we had our first practice with Sarah last week and goddamn... she fucking rocks more than any of us could have anticipated. And oh yeah, if i don't get to say it before it's too late... happy motherfuckin' halloween everyone. -andy
9.25.02 - sadly, our drummer jeff has left for the big apple. we wish him well in new york and hope that he will come back to visit us repeatedly. we also hope that he can find some guys in NY to rock with. after some drama and a great amount of confusion, eric is also no longer a full time drummer in our ranks. he is still one of our closest friends and hope to continue working with him on some musical level. that said, it looks as though we may have a new member, an unparalleled drummer named sarah. we hope to get some practice time with her very soon. we plan on putting on two Halloween-themed shows this october, one at the paramount with the freak circus, and one on Halloween night at a yet-to-be-decided venue. the show will feature covers of some of our favorite spooky songs (including "thriller" and "hells bells") and one, possibly two original works (one of them will composed exclusively for the show). after that, we plan on putting together an entirely new set. we also hope to have t-shirts to sell for real cheap at the halloween shows. wrapped up in the shirts will be cd recordings of our 4.20.01 warehouse 21 show. also, i'll be scanning pictures to put on the page soon. keep checking back. thanks. - andy
