The purpose of Sigma Chi is a simple one: to help good men become great men by giving them opportunities to build and live their ideals, serve in leadership positions, and engage in positive interaction with those of all temperaments, talents, and convictions, people from all walks of life and backgrounds.
The Norman Shield, the pledge manual of Sigma Chi, states that:
"The fundamental purpose of the Sigma Chi Fraternity is the cultivation, maintenance and accomplishment of the ideals of friendship, justice, and learning within our membership. …[Sigma Chi] engenders a lifelong commitment to strive to achieve true friendship, equal justice for all and to realize the fulfillment of learning as part of our overall responsibilities to the broader communities in which we live. We achieve these ideals through the practice of character qualities embodied in our Ritual" (23).
By seeking after friendship, justice, and learning across a lifetime, the members of Sigma Chi gain innumerable experiences that contribute to a healthy and full state of being.
Among the greatest benefits and most important purposes of Sigma Chi is to offer service to the community. Through numerous service projects and philanthropic efforts every year, the Beta Epsilon chapter of Sigma Chi raises tens of thousands of dollars to help disadvantaged children and families. We also contribute our time to make a difference by serving as mentors, tutors, and agents for strengthening our community.
