Minority Women Pursuing Law Striving for Equality in Law |
About Us |
Purpose The purpose of this organization is to unite and motivate Minority Women at the University of Texas at Austin who are interested in law, justice and Law School. We aim to prepare Minority Women who have ambitions of law school, and provide information on what a minority woman's experience will be in law school and in a career of law. We aspire to create long lasting networks of minority women who can rely on each other and each other's experiences to best prepare for the world of law. |
Engagements As a dedicated and newly founded pre-law organization, we provide our members with valuable information at every Engagement. Each Engagement will address a different toic relevant to pre-law students. We will host a variety of speakers and throughout the year our members will gain a vast knowledge of specific issues related to being in the field of law. The Engagements are held every other Wednesday. |
Scholarships As a member of MWPL you are automatically entitled to a 10% discount of the original cost of the LSAT prep courses. Members are also eligible to win a scholarship for an LSAT Prep Course with Princeton Review or Kaplan if they meet the requirements such as Engagement attendance, payment of dues, and participation in events throughout the semester. These scholarships are half the price of the regular cost. |
Law School Tours MWPL gives members opportunities to tour different law schools. We will have tours by law school students so that our members will get to see each school from the students' point of view. Members will also sit in various classes (i.e. Torts and Contracts) to see how the professors and students interact. In our quest we have toured the University of Texas Law School, the University of Houston Law Center, and South Texas School of Law. Upcoming tours will hopefully include Baylor, Southwestern, Texas Tech, and many more. |
Law Firm Tours MWPL provides Minority Women with the opportunity to tour elite Law Firms. The Firms we visit practice diverse fields of law. In the past women of MWPL have been given a tour, lunch, and a question and answers session with Attorneys from firms such as Baker and Hostetler Counselors at Law, Fulbright and Jaworski, and Brown & McCarroll. |
Founded MWPL was founded in 2003 at the University of Texas at Austin by Aurora Martinez, Elysia Figueroa and Lizette Montiel. The organization has continued to grow rapidly and increases its membership each semester. MWPL is open to undergraduates at The University of Texas at Austin who are minority women and are considering practicing law. |
