An Ideal Society After reading the first few pages of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World I was reminded of many movies, video games and books that I have experienced which in turn spawned the idea of writing this article. It may be difficult for many of you to understand why controlled human replication would create an ideal society. And you, my friends, are stupid. There are many ways that controlling replication of human kind could create an ideal society. Through further advancements in genetic engineering it would be possible to fully control the replication of man (for those of you who don’t know cloning as of this moment is ninety-something percent unsuccessful, resulting in all sorts of mutations and defects) and make a plethora of improvements on their genetic structure. Improved cloning could produce many of one type of human. They would be all the same, drones in fact, and could be easily be controlled. This new breed would have to be created sterile (unable to produce gametes (sperm, egg)) to prevent unwanted procreation. While doing so they could be made to be both sexes (hermaphrodites) and able to partake in parthenogenesis (the ability to “clone” oneself). This would make the act of sex meaningless to the survival of the species and trivial and would also help cut the cost of storing the DNA samples used to replicate the new beings. In addition to reproductive enhancements, improvements would be made to the intellect of the beings. They should be able to learn and understand new tasks and even problem solve extremely well. And under no circumstance should they be able to reason or philosophize. Their incapability to do so will insure that they will not revolt against their oppressors and will allow for a fully conformed and peaceful society. Their strength and agility should also be improved depending on what type of work they will do. This control of abilities will make certain that no one has excessive power, thus insuring peace and tranquillity. The workforce would be enhanced but will be easily controlled by the unique few that would run this “New World”. The drones would blindly follow the orders of these few and would be subject to their every whim. What makes the leaders unique would be that, even though they had enhanced DNA like the drones, they would not share their genetic codes with anyone else and would have the intellectual abilities denied to the drones that they command. The manner of their rule would come straight from the pages of The Prince (if you don’t know what that is you really should). A tyrannical rule using fear and censorship to maintain order and to keep the power assigned to them. That would be the government of an ideal society, policed by new age Gestapo tracking down suspected heretics that would then be tried in a biased court in front of conditioned drones with little or no evidence against them much the like in the McCarthy era. This harsh rule would guarantee peace and harmony among the new residents of the world. After all man has proven time and time again that Thomas Hobbes was right. The new order of the world would not last forever however. Even though human replication would be fully controlled success would not be 100 percent. There would be mutations or “defects” in the DNA from both the laboratory and parthenogenesis. Anyone who recognizes Darwin’s theory (evolution) would know that within a population there would be mutation, for that is the basis of evolution. Some mutations will be apparent and those that have them would be promptly disposed of, but other “defects” such as the ability to reason may be missed upon casual inspection leaving the individual to grow. This Deus Ex Machina (look it up) would lead a revolt, similar to the one of the proletariat, and overthrow the Machiavellian government. The drones would praise this demi-god for their liberation from tyranny and crown him king. Depending on his personality he would either accept or refuse establishing a monarchy (dictatorship) or a sort of democracy, respectively. This act would in turn affect the course of history. “How can this be an ideal society?” you say. Well there was peace and tranquillity, which is essentially what everyone wants. Plus everyone is smarter, stronger and faster. There are practically no birth defects. Jobs are assured and special training is unnecessary. Sex is trivial and useless, other than for enjoyment. What’s the loss of a little individuality anyway? I mean fascism was cool, wasn’t it? I thought you’d agree. |
