Stars and Stripes is an American Studies 'dispuut' that consists of students who all study at the University of Leiden and who all share an interest in and enthusiasm for America and American Studies. In 1999/2000 the board was revived and the new members organized all sorts of America related events such as a Halloween party and a Thanksgiving dinner and even published a Yearbook. In 1988 the specialization American Studies was established at the Faculty of Arts for graduate students of English, History and Liberal Arts. The student organization, UTRECHTSE STUDENTEN AMERIKANISTIEK (USA), followed suit in 1992. Now, five years later, the USA has become the voice of American Studies' students and serves as an important intermediary between staff and students. |
| Extract from VASA website: Vereniging Amerikanistiek Studenten Amsterdam is the official student council of the American Studies Department at the University of Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Student Council of American Studies was established in the late 1980s by students of the American Studies Department at the University of Amsterdam. The student council deals with many different activities which focus on the United States. We organize lectures, movie showings, and excursions to museums, expositions, and for instance the Roosevelt Study Center in Middelburg. |
| Extract from USA Nijmegen website: De studierichting Amerikanistiek heeft haar eigen studievereniging, USA Nijmegen, opgericht in 1989. USA Nijmegen is een actieve en vooral ook gezellige studievereniging. Het enthousiaste bestuur zet zich in om contacten tussen de studenten Amerikanistiek te bevorderen. USA Nijmegen organiseert feesten, filmavonden, en excursies naar bijvoorbeeld de Amerikaanse ambassade en het Roosevelt Study Center. Het 15-jarig bestaan van studierichting en studievereniging werd recentelijk gevierd met een feest met surf-thema. |

THE one and only outstanding great student association of American Studies (ughe, ughe, yes you do need a vomit bag). The EPU already exists about thirty years or so, although you wouldn't say that, because the last ehm twenty years no one did anything! But then we came, the savind angels; Erika (Chair), Marit (Treasurer), Rendert (Secretary), little Mark and Renee (PR and Party Committee).
