Membership Cards Or Popcorn?  Photo ID or No Photo ID?  Swiffer Sheets or a
Dirty Old Rag?: The Great Debates Commence
                                                            Or
What Happens When Evil Capitalist Geniuses Unite

We postpone "Fight[ing] the Winter Blahs" in favour of purchasing a microwave and creating official membership cards.  In the process, we hold one of the most fruitful (and lengthy) meetings since, well, ever.
Welcome back, suckers!
-Steph: Suggestion to create membership cards approved.  2 types proposed, both valid:
1) basic, unadorned card bearing the owner's signature - $5.00
2) deluxe laminated photo ID bearing owner's image and signature - $6.00
-prices subject to change (decrease), as people may be reluctant to shell out more than a fiver
-Jamie: membership drive to sell cards; pay first or hand out (basic) cards at time of purchase (photo ID cards will take more time)?
-Derek announces that he has a laminator, becoming our best friend in the process (we may now be able to laminate the basic cards as we hand them out upon purchase)
-Erica (proclaiming herself a bitch) proposes to kick out any unreasonable, unruly or rude folk who continually use our microwave without a card
-Steph: buy microwave first, then sell cards to recoup
-Martine: provide plastic utensils for microwave-users? [suggestion provokes protest; Steph makes official retraction on Martine's behalf]
-Eireann: reminder that common room belongs to English Department; we must consult with them first
-Jamie: E.S.A janitor needed (something to put on your resumé)?
-others counter that we should all do our part to keep microwave and room tidy
-Steph: Swiffer sheets are the answer
-Derek: Swiffer sheets are a waste of money and unfriendly to the environment
-Steph: Swiffer sheets, while less than cost-efficient and not particularly friendly to the environment, are nicer to use and more sanitary than a dirty old rag
-her final rebuttal delivered, Steph makes a motion to pee, only to be interrupted by Jose's breaking an ill-gotten red chair; our co-presidents (and resident furniture thieves) gasp in tandem
-Erina: Fight the Winter Blahs at a later date?  Combine with membership drive?
-Steph: popcorn is messy
-Jamie: beware the Pepsi Nazis
-Jose: You are all evil capitalists.
-Jamie & Eireann: continue selling membership cards during Literary Week!
-
New Priority = microwave & cards
-Derek: today is Elvis Aaron Presley's birthday
-Eireann:  (what would have been) Tolkien's eleventy-first birthday is past
-Jamie: scholarly get-together for literary & theoretical readings and discussion?
-general agreement that Lit. Week readings will be screened this year
-Jamie: Creative Writers are evil
-Ashley: German textbooks hurt when they hit you
-Eireann: what professional writers can we book?
-Kristian: I am not a door leading to powerful connections.
-Eireann: Yes, you are.
-Marc: Steph may or may not approach David Bergen when they meet for lunch next week
-Derek will approach Uma
-Jamie: an E.S.A Bursary?  Any well-to-do alumnae for us to approach?
-Erica: extended hours for Lit. Week are 11:30-2:30
-Marc will bring digi-cam next week for any keeners who want their membership card photos taken early
-Eireann's photo may be altered to include Colin Firth and/or a kitten
-Jamie: popcorn to be sold the Friday before Lit. Week as a form of advertising?
-Cortney's [2] entrance[s]! [Ashley dismisses the first as ineffective]
-Derek: reminder about Day of Action
-Cortney will look into advertising for our membership drive
-climactic digression on evil geniuses
-Erina: NOTE: Lit. Week readings will have to be for a general audience [e.g., do not follow the secretary's infamous example from last year's Fromage Day], and shall be screened for any offensive material; in response to Derek's concern about freedom of speech, co-presidents clarify that racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., material is what we will be screening for
- next meeting on Jan. 15th, same time & place
-Off-topic: Eireann's 21st birthday on Jan. 13th, "CHICAGO" (the sensational movie musical & not the city) at Grant Park Cinema on Jan. 18th (?), Erin has the car and can give rides; Madonnarama at Happenings on Jan. 24th
