Minutes taken by Marc Ducusin

"A Crack of the Whip and a Flick of the Knife"
or "All Work and No Play Can’t Last Long with the E.S.A"

(Armed with a strict agenda, our co-presidents see that we get down to business. Then, out come the daggers. Kristian is nicked repeatedly by the blade of Eireann's malicious wit, but the fracas subsides—until the arrival of Cortney.)
-an inauspicious beginning: Eireann arrives late, making profuse apologies, her well-polished
     veneer of civility still intact
-Agenda of Upcoming (or, rather, imminent) Events:
     1) Book Auction - extended, now Nov. 6 & 7th
-4 tables in front of info booth, to be confirmed
            -10am-3pm
-donations? Jodi will approach Stella's; Larissa will try Cinemathèque
-brainstorming: include bookstore certificate in one of the baskets; Stephanie: sell baked
goods; crafts to adorn the baskets/bags (Jodi: origami, at which Eireann professes to
be adept); re-usable cloth bags – not enough time to sew, so bring in your old ( no
              longer needed) bags next week
-get together to prepare bags at Eireann’s house during the afternoon of Oct. 27th
-silent auction; tickets already designed; if people don’t pick up their bags, we will re-
              draw
             -Prices: 1 ticket = $1.00, 5 for $4.00
-no delivery (Colin: unless they are exceptionally attractive)
-no music; Tequila Mockingbird for Feb. Lit. Week instead
              -sign-up sheet passed around
      2) Snow Ball: Winter Costume Party (& Dance?) – Dec. 20th
-start thinking about costumes, people! (note from the secretary: Bosie Douglas &
Oscar Wilde are already taken, thank you very much)
-no venue yet; preferably not on campus
-co-operation of other departments; Carla from UWSA has to email us a list of student
                associations
-criteria for venues: reasonable cost, sufficient capacity, ample facilities (bar, dance
floor, washrooms); other considerations: regulations (will clean-up and catering be
               provided or our responsibility?)
              -E&E looking into Faculty Club
-Kristian: Jeremiah has mentioned possibility of renting Bulman at a discount
      3) Literary Week – Feb. 10-14th
              -Duckworth Mezzanine; extended hours: 11:30-2:20
              -Tequila Mockingbird on the 10th
-don’t fix the theme days until we’ve received some response on the availability of
                 profs & celeb readers
-Jamie: a symposium for students to share papers?
-screening readers (and readings) to avoid the M___ fiasco; a gong or orchestra to
                prevent readers from going overtime?
-E&E are distributing funds to schools, despite gov’t obstacles
-Eireann: Nuns are cute.
-red tape is the handiwork of Satan
-it has been decided that we are not a corporation
-the Great Shift in tone occurs; Eireann incurs the wrath of Kristian (& perhaps the ghost of Robert Enright) by envisioning his father in a pair of pink bunny slippers; Kristian: "Your sincerity means nothing to me. A teddy bear with a knife behind its back—that’s what you are!"
-John Cleese is a wonderful thing.
-Kristian interrupts the revelry to represent the absent Cortney, and introduce her vision of an E.S.A Boo at the Zoo; unfortunately, most people are busy on Halloween, some w/evening classes
-as if invoked by the utterance of her name, Cortney appears, the bison jumping off Kristian’s cliff (whatever did you mean, Kristian?)
-Cortney will find out hours for Boo at the Zoo to accommodate those w/evening classes [secretary’s addendum: Boo at the Zoo is not being held on Halloween night, but we can still dine at Earl’s (Kristian’s wonderful idea)]
-Cortney shows us her "Bust," with varying reactions

-after the meeting: Marc & Erica espy an intriguing stranger and wonder: is that an Australian accent or a very cute speech impediment? We may never know. . . .
