Benjamin Coker Notes: William Coker's family were apparently from Cheraw, South Carolina which is near the NC/SC border. William Coker was reared in St. Andrews Parish in Virginia. There are Coker members buried on Society Hill (formerly Long Bluff) at the Welsh Neck Baptist Church Cemetery, organized in 1737. There is no marker for William Coker in that cemetery. Society Hill is presently in Darlington County while Cheraw is presently in Chesterfield county. The old courthouse in Cheraw was burned by Sherman during the Civil War. William Coker and all four of his sons served in the militia from St. Davis Paris and the Cheraw District during the Revolutionary War. (Delores Springer) |
