FIRST YEAR STUDENTS
First year students were one of my primary target groups for this year. Working with first-year students can simultaneously be one of the more frustrating, and fulfilling parts of the JCSC Fellowship.
Firstly, there is a sizeable divide between first-year students living in the private halls, and those living in the public halls. While not quite a rivalry, it's a clear separation of communities and ties. That is, until they start meeting- through fraternities/sororities, or even through Hillel!
This year, I focused on working with the Langdon (private) and Chadbourne Residential College (public), as well as various programs within the SouthEast Residence Halls (public), and Lakeshore (public). Matt Lowe worked with the Statesider and Towers (private), as well as with some of the others at various points through the year.
Some of the programs I did include:
*Dorm based trips to the  Chocolate Shoppe and Jamba Juice

          *FYSHing for Friends (watching the
           season premiere of Friends)

*ChallahWeen (challah baking and a scary movie)

*Chanukah Parties (latkes, dreidel tournements, soufganyot, and menorah lighting) in SouthEast, and Lakeshore, as well as Menorah Lightings at Langdon, Statesider/Towers,and Chadbourne.

*The Great Purim Bake-Off (hamantashen baking and trivia bowl at Langdon and Chadbourne)
