Walaikum assalam,
Allah Most High said, “Ask the people of remembrance if you know not.”
What is itself fard is to follow a recognized and accepted mujtahid imam properly in every action of religious consequence.
This is operationally only possible by following one of the four madhhabs in each action one performs.
