| MARCH ARTICLE Reading the thermometer and looking at all the snow outside it is hard to believe that the Uxbridge Horticultural Society will be meeting in just a few days to begin another year of meetings and shows. The executive and committees have worked hard during the winter months to find stimulating and interesting speakers. On March 12th our members will be putting their culinary skills to work to share a Pot Luck Supper. In 2002 our membership grew to 157 and the in the words of our President, Bob Shepherd, “this growth is expected to continue in 2003”. Volunteers from the Uxbridge Horticultural Society plant and maintain many of the flower beds in and around Uxbridge and freely share their knowledge and expertise with the Township and members of the public. The “Children’s Garden” at the rear of the library was achieved with the generous help of the Township and is now ready for planting in the spring by our junior members, a.k.a. SLUGS, under their new director, Joel Cross. The Children’s Garden is intended for the children using the library encouraging them to appreciate the wonders of nature. Our meeting in April will start the growing year with a panel of experts. Speakers appearing in the coming months will help us with pruning, roses, naturalizing the garden, spring and fall practices and making twig furniture. Please join us for our Pot Luck Supper at 6.30 pm on March 12th at the Senior’s Centre. The membership fee for 2003 includes a yearbook with rules and regulations for the monthly shows and many helpful tips from experts and members. We meet at 8.00 pm on the second Wednesday of each month, excluding in August. We encourage members to arrive at 7.30 pm for an informal “chat” when tea and “dessert” is available. For more information on any of the above please call Bob Shepherd, 852-7047. |
