APRIL ARTICLE

The Uxbridge Horticultural Society began the growing year with a potluck supper, all members looking forward to spring after a long, cold winter.  John Taylor whetted our appetites with suggestions for starting seeds indoors using materials found in most households.

A panel of experts will be on hand for our next meeting on April 9th.  The experts will give a brief overview of their expertise before opening the floor to questions. The topics covered will be “Lawn and Lawn Care” by Dee Cashen, “Water Gardens” with Linna Lawes and “Trees and Shrubs” with Iain Pike an  “Arborist”.

The Uxbridge Horticultural Society is a garden club for everyone, those with or without a garden.  We take care of many of the flowerbeds in Uxbridge and are always looking for volunteers to water and dead head them.  An annual membership fee of $10.00 ($15.00 per family) includes a Yearbook which is full of information regarding the flower shows, the photo competition, rules and regulations, tips from members, and the role we play in sponsoring local projects such as The Uxbridge Fall Fair and SLUGS.  Along with the Yearbook members will receive Sweet Pea seed and novelty Lettuce seeds.  Flower shows each month from May to October include houseplants and flower arrangements as well as vegetables and flower specimens.
The meeting ‘proper’ commences at 8 p.m. but the doors will be open from 7.30 p.m. for informal discussion among members and for tea and dessert. There is a meeting charge of $2.00 per member ($3.50 per guest) to cover the cost of the speaker, refreshments and raffles
