PRICING A TRADE RUN
This is the most important thing in every Trade Run!
Finding a good Trade BEFORE you get a form together to Trade.
You have to go to the prospective Trade-Shops, buy a mule or horse, and
type "value <item>" where <item>
is something from some other Trade-Shop. There are Scripts for most Clients
that people use to auto-value
all items on Med and spit back a list of which ones are worth Trading.
CATASTROPHE'S
These are good things, in case you don't know. Every once in a while, there
is a Catastrphe at one of
the Trade-Shops that takes about 8 hours IRL to cycle through while the
Shop is closed for business.
What happens is that most of the prices at that shop get reset to a High
Demand, driving prices way up
(I've seen Trades worth over 6mill for one wagon load after a catastrophe
on the Coast). When the
Catastrophe is over, especially if it happened on the Coasts, a LOT of
people start doing Trade runs
till the prices reach a more normal level. You can find out if there is
a catastrophe going somewhere
by reading Catastrophe in the Medievia Paper.
TRADING SOLO
This can be very difficult, especially if you try to take a Wagon for your
freight. Unless you have
a lot of Experience leading Traderuns, I would suggest sticking with Mules
if you solo... It may not
be as profitable, but you are a LOT more likely to survive. Probably the
biggest difficulty of Trading
Solo, is that you don't have easy access to all the abilities you will
need. You can find EQ to cover
these gaps, like a Shadow Cloak to Invis yourself, and Potions for Healing,
or an Amulet of
Quickness to cast Quick.
TRADING IN A FORM
This is the most common way to Trade. A Trade-Form is very similar to an
Exp or EQ Form...
but with more emphasis on defense...more HP's and Mana, and a lot of people
wear REGEN items.
THE LEADER
The Leader of a Trade-Form is a LOT busier than on an Exp Run. Usually
the leader is moving a
mile a minute through the Wilderness and is utterly spammed even more than
the rest of the Form
because they can't Gag all the things on the screen because they need to
see them. Because of this,
a Trade-Run leader is a Lot more likely to split the mandatory jobs into
things that people in the
form need to take care of while the Leader Runs the Wilderness. Scouts
(Usually the people who
clean the Mob-Facs off road) (...while rest of form guards frieght) Mass
Invis (the person who
Invis's Form after every fight) Mass Quick (the HIGHEST level person who
can cast it)
(...it lasts longer that way, and gives a better Stamina) Mass Ref (One
or Two people who
cast Mass Ref on the form as needed) Orb/Sanc (Someone to make sure form/front
row is
sanc'd) Weather (Someone needs to Watch for Bad Weather)
GENERAL INFO
Pay attention to what is goin on.
Don't go AFK without making sure the Leader specifically knows.
Don't stay AFK for very long if you have to be AFK.
TR's are dangerous. Try not to Loose Link. It can spam you off if you're
not careful.
Don't WHISK, ever...If you do, most forms won't wait for more than a ...minute,
maybe two (if they wait at all) before they keep goin.
GAGING
If you aren't the leader, try to Gag as much of the Spam as possible.
A lot of people set up a file on their Client that can turn on/off a large
number of things
that reduce the amount of spam you see when trading like. .. Some examples...turn
as many of your
channels off as possible (clan, town, auction, imm, etc). Minimize the Map
to 3 or smaller, or turn Brief Move on.
Turn Ansi Color off, and highlight Trade-Run Msgs...Gag panting, horses,
"has arrived", and other info like that.
TYPES OF TRADE RUNS
Covered Wagon (Most Common, but must take roads and run into Mob-Facs)
Pack Mule (Easier because of no Mob-Facs, but less profits)
Wagon 2 Mule (Usually an Ur-Ville or Mahn-Tor Run) (...much more complicated
runs, but good profit)
Mahn-Tor (These runs have to go through a CPK area where a LOT) (...of
people get killed trying to Trade, Mules only)
Ur-Ville (Near Swamp of Thanos, Mules only)
WEATHER ON TRADE RUNS
Hurricanes (Cast Shield Room, Link or Run through fast while Healing)
Rainstorms (Ignore and keep running)
Tornado's (Link or Die, nothing protects except for being indoors)
Wasp Storms (Link or Run through fast while Healing like mad)
Firestorm (This is the Most Dangerous Weather IMHO)
(...this weather prevents the casting of spells. So if)
(...you get into any fights, they're nasty. Especially)
(...if you slam into a Mob-Fac in the middle of it.)
TRADING ON A HORSE
Preferably, always get a "Warhorse" from Med, as they have high
stamina
This is the most prefered way to trade, becuase if you're on foot, you
will fall down from trying to move too fast.
TRADING ON FOOT
Elm Staff:Quick(10c,@31) +10 Stam (Crystal Waters - Wandering Dam)
Boots of Mt Climbing +10 Stam (Asnor - Mt Climbers)
Crimson Ring of Regen Regen HP/Move (Gob Castle - King)
Silvery Ring of Regen Regen Mana (Drow - Noble House:3 mobs)
This will allow you to get around an 80+ Stamina, will Regen your Move
at a
rate faster than you use it, and yo u will still get back Mana without
resting.
Effectively, you become as fast as a horse.
MAHN-TOR CPK
Yes, if you trade to Mahn-Tor, you must run at least 4 steps in CPK, and
a lot of CPK clans hang around just to loot people who try it.
So before you go anywhere near the Mahn-Tor CPK, make sure you have stored
all your most valueable EQ in a locker.
(You will also loose all the Cash on you, and quite a bit of Exp) The way
to get through is West,West,South,South,South,South...
from the South-Eastern most entrance of Darkwoods, or the same directions
in reverse (n,n,e,e) from the Altar in wilderness outside of Mahn-Tor.
If you are in a form, it is prolly best for everyone to run through separately,
as quickly as they can. That way, anyone spamming
BS <name> will have the least opportunity to CPK you.
EVIL DRAGONS
There are a few ways to avoid an Evil Dragon...
One....my personal favorite, just keep moving fast and out-run it.
Two....if you are near water, stand in the water till the dragon leaves.
Three..if you are too busy to out-run it, and there is no water near-by,
Link BEFORE the dragon lands...as you will not be able to after it lands.
Four...if you know you are the Target, call a Good Dragon to fight the
Evil one. But this costs cash, and you generally have to know who its after.
Five...if the dragon finds you anyway, the person it is chasing should
teleport/run away till the dragon leaves, while the rest of your form sits
on the freight.
When the dragon leaves, you can phase back and continue.
MOB-FACTIONS
This really needs its own Section...but in general, here are a few hints
and idea's.
Mob-Factions only last for 15 minutes, when they disappear they will take
your freight with them if they have control of it.
If you have the time, you can always wait in a shielded/trapped room till
they dissappear.
Its always good to shield/trap rooms, so if the Mob-Fac gets your freight
they won't take it far..
.as mob-facs are limited to taking your frieght along the roads, just like
we are.
Several Mob-Facs are easier to deal with if your freight isn't in the room
with you, so if you fight them,
try not to bring your freight along (but leave someone guarding it who
can shield room if possible)
Kobolds and Trolls will all try to join in if their leaders are attack,
so if possible, kill the non-leaders first,
or have somone sneak in and shield the room the leaders are in so you can
fight them relatively easily.
