News from Alternative Universes Favourites Fly Again (updated 16 nov 03) The list of returning series both old and not-so-old continues to grow as networks discover what was old is now new again! Million Dollar Man [US]- switching tone from action/drama to a satirical comedy with Jim Carrey rumoured to star as the bionic man in this big screen remake! Dark Shadows [US]- the 1966-71 vampire soap-opera which was once resurrected in 1990 starring Ben Cross, is set for a return courtesy of the WB network. The original producer is said to be working with writer John Wells (ER, West Wing) for a possible 2004-05 prime time slot! Firefly [US]- Joss Whedon's award winning and recently cancelled tale of a lone troupe fighting the valient fight in the outer reaches of space is to return both on DVD and the big screen, possibly with the entire cast! Dr. Who [UK]- In development hell for over 10 years, BBC has announced a return of the famous time-lord not seen since '89, sometime possibly in 2005. UPDATE: Rumours abound that BBC is desperate to land Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) as the new Doctor! Blake's 7 [UK]- BBC's cult favourite of a lone troupe valiently fighting an evil empire in the outer reaches of space (trust me- this one's very different from the above Firefly!) is slated to make its return to British airwaves with at least one returning character. Update: it appears the character of AVON will not be returning after all due to "creative differences" Battlestar Galactica [US]- The highly anticipated show about daggits and hippee hair-do's gets a much needed update as it returns this December! (check local listings) Fans will be closely watching as dear characters such as Starbuck gets a sex change, the tin cylons now have skin coverings in the quise of super-models with the rag-tag humans again seeking the 13th colony known as Earth. Logan's Run [US]- That terrific 70's movie starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter and Peter Ustinov about a society of the future where at the age of 30 all must partake in carousel- a ritual in which all believe lies ressurrection and renewal. Yet for a few who choose to run seeking a mythical sanctuary, it becomes a race against those who hunt them down. Rumoured to yet again be in the running for an update! More coming soon... |
