89th Virginia Militia
of
Morgan County
1861-1862
During the early months of the American Civil War  Morgan County, Virginia sat at the the most northern point of the state along the Potomac River.  This county was torn in two as some of its people rallied around the Grand Old Flag and other the new flag of the Southern Confederacy.  This militia regiment would send troops both to the north and to the south.  This regiment would have brothers facing brothers, and even those who did not fight or atleast for long gaining stigmas with neighbors out for reprisals.
Also this county was not only torn in the turbulence of being a border county, during a civil war, but being thrust into the new state of West Virginia by 1863.  These men and their families could find themselves, during times of occupation by certain forces enjoy the best of times and the worst of times.
In time this site will include the entire roster as reported by the National Prak Service, and stories about citizen soldiers who were in her ranks.
