As you can see, the dinghy is mounted upside down on the deck with a custom fitted sunbrella cover. It has had its floor boards replaced by two large pieces of clear coated marine ply instead of 5 and is quite rigid. The custom dingy arm is driven off the electric windlass and is a snap to use.

The flybridge upholstery is new as of three years ago and is in great condtion. The isinglass has been replaced as needed.

This is exactly the condition of the valve covers and the cylinder head when I set the valve clearances: no sludge whatever.
There are new custom uphosltery touches for the guest and master stateroom with designer fabrics and renewed upholstery all around. There are some froo-froo touches that might appeal to women more than men, but they are totally removable.

Looking aft in the salon. Again, newer upholstery and custom cushions. The carpeting is also newer and matches the upholstery. .

Salon table looking forward. Off to starboard is the lower helm. Really, the impression of room and large windows is paramount.

We live aboard for the entire summer so we know the limitations of a galley. But this one, while neither large or small, actually works quite well and we have done some pretty nifty dinner parties from it.
A large frig-freezer still can't handle a lot of ice production, so we appreciate the built in icemaker, bar sink and, yes even the built in blender. And they all work. Granted, we replaced the icemaker last summer. But the bar area is fully capable of stocking whatever you need.

Most of the time cruising is spent at the flybridge. But you would be surprised how nice it is to steer from below when the waves are fierce or the weather is cold. Also, it allows a lot of energy and inverter management. Isn't it nice to be able to cook underway and have a look out? We think so. Bayliner may be almost a household word in boating, but there is a lot of value and usefulness in their designs. We have been totally satisfied with our experience with this boat and we have owned larger.

The engine room. SHowing the port engine and fire system. You can stand up (somewhat) in various places in there. I would rate it as OK for routine maintenance. You can't have a standup aft cabin and a standup engine room in a 38' boat. Something has to give. But it's much better than those trawlers with engines below the salon. Also quieter. Conversation is normal at low rpm. The loudest noise is from the wake bubbling aft. Really.

There are rocket launchers above and rod holders in the coaming. There is a pump for the portable bait tank mounted above the swim step. We keep the motor aft to be easier to mount to the dinghy but it can be kept permanently on the dinghy. The downside is that you now have a water collector on the foredeck.

The bimini is only three years old and can be folded forward for fishing.

The flat screen TV and DVD player is not currently aboard but can be mounted if desired. Some people like their own electronics. The sliding door is to the shared shower. Then aft of that is the guest head, then aft of that is the guest stateroom which has its own closet, standup room and the queen berth

There are covers for just about everything except for the solar panels mounted on top of the flybridge. Just enough watts to help the frig run during the day..

THE END

THE END.

His car, curiously not equipped with hand controls.

The coat of arms of the VanRodesvelt family who were Dutch.

One of his set of braces.

The dining area which was part of a combination living/dining room. Relatively plain for his wealth.

The dishes, again pretty ordinary.

The watercolor portrait which the artist was completing that morning. He fell ill in the early afternoon and died of a stroke about 4 pm that day.

Another 100 miles south from Warm Springs is Plains. Let me tell you how to pronounce his name in the correct dialect. It is not Jimmy, but Jimmuah. You sort of put the two vowels u and a together to make a new sound as if you couldn't say uh without another vowel sound. Anyway, that is the Carter warehouse if you look carefully.

Plains city hall

Somewhere in there is the residence but it is probably not that white building as it's too close to the road. There are very large "No Stopping" signs along the street.

Ah Ha, you say, Greg has lost his marbles and put the Grand Canyon out of sequence. Should have been near Meteor Crater. That would be correct except that this is the LITTLE Grand Canyon and it is not far from Plains and west of Lumpkin, Georgia if you want to look it up. Who knew? Evidently all the motorcyclists in this part of Georgia knew because they were all there taking pictures. Anyway, one of those little delights of touring the out of the way places of this magnificent country

THE END

THE END.

Kennedy's limousine which in this case has the roof installed

A complete and authentic McD sign from the 60's

The aircraft used by Byrd for one of his expeditions. It was named for Edsel's daughter

Lincoln's chair from the Ford theater. The blood stains are still visible.

The bus in which Rosa Parks began the Civil Rights era

A "colored" drinking fountain from a bus station. There was a whites only fountain just nearby
A complete steam engine from the turn of the century. IF you think this is big, consider that a complete engine used at the Ford factory on River ROuge was also there but so big it was impossible to get a picture.

A few memorabilia from the distant past. We took exception to this one piece because we owned one. How dare the museum imply we are of historical interest!

Buckminster FUller decided a way to use post war technology was to build houses by the same techniques used to build aircraft. These were to be built at the Cessna factory. Only two were built and this one is a total restoration. The project failed due to a lack of capital

The living room of the Dymaxion house.

How many of you have seen this icon on the streets during the period? Hopefully, it brings back the same nostalgia as it did for me. Jan never saw one and didn't even know who Little Oscar was. It's amazing what a few years will do in terms of period experiences.
