Chapter 4
“It’s amazing really how well we get on! And our music—we just click! I really can’t wait for you to meet him.” “You won’t have to. I’m back in London.” I nearly dropped the phone in pure surprise. “What?! Steven Hewitt you mother fucking liar! You said you’d be out of the country for another two months!” Steve chuckled. “I know, I know. What can I say, Bri? I missed you too much.” I rolled my eyes, feeling rather bubbly. “Yeah right. So what went wrong?” “Always the shrewd one.” Steve laughed. “Well if you must know, our last couple dates were cancelled. Mick was ‘indisposed’.” “Indisposed?” “Let’s just say he had acute acne of the genitals.” “…Ew.” Steve laughed. “I know. But so I’m home now.” “Well I demand you come over.” I said sternly. “I know you’ll like him.” Steve paused. “Wasn’t he one of the jocks at school with you Bri?” I hesitated, playing with the phone cord. “Well yeah but—” “One of the jocks who broke your arm?” “That was a long time ago Steve.” I mumbled staring at the carpet as if he could see my eyes. “People like that don’t change, man.” I didn’t answer. “Promise you won’t be mean?” I asked finally. Steve sighed. “I’m sorry Bri, but I can’t promise anything. But I’ll try. If he’s really as good as you say, than I guess I’ll have to accept that.” I smiled slightly. “Well I’ll hold you to that.” “Yeah, yeah.” Steve grumbled. “So when are you coming over?” I demanded in an attempt to change the subject. “How does tomorrow sound?” “Excellent!” I grinned to myself. “I’ll invite Stef over and we can have dinner, yeah?” “Alright. I’ll bring my shot gun just in case.” I rolled my eyes. “Stop it, Steve.” “Well I might need it after all. What if this guy tries to take advantage of my Molks in your inebriated state?” I smiled again, I loved it when he called me *his* Molks… “Now Steve, you and I both know that if you want to shag me, all you have to do is ask.” Steve chuckled. “Caught on have you?” “Of course.” “Bright aren’t you?” “Exceedingly.” “Well alright, love. I’ll see you tomorrow then.” “Night Stevie.” “G’night, Bri.”
