Ford Motor Company (Automatic Transmission Ops)

Engineering Intern (Summer 1998):  Designed SDRC IDEAS models of torque converters then created drafting details of these components.  The models were created in a manner to facilitate finite element analysis performed in another department.

Engineering Intern (Summer 1997): Ford Motor Company (Automatic Transmission Ops). Work planning and communication coordination for Automatic Transmission Engineering Management. This supported the C3P/ Ford 2000 implementation for ATEO.  Specific tasks included speaking with managers and supervisors of departments and addressing program manager concerns with program timing.

Whirlpool Technology

Engineering Intern (Summer 1996): Whirlpool Technology Designed and performed a laboratory approval program on the Easy Clean 100 Dryer, including the supervision of 2 technicians.

Engineering Technician (Full Time): Whirlpool Technology Center 2/94 to 10/95. Core team member of the Lint Storage Dryer design/implementation team. Executed laboratory and field/life test programs and originated many design improvements.  Details of this system follow:

"The largest lint basket in the industry collects up to 100 loads of lint. No need to empty the basket after every load. Check the lint level by looking through the window! To empty, lift the lid, pull out the basket, turn it over and the lint falls out easily...you never have to touch it!"

My job was to execute all the testing and performance validation and suggest improvements.

Specific contributions to the design:

  • Placement and calibration of the controls system
  • Shape and positioning of the final blower and separator system (for both performance and noise considerations)
  • Shape of the basket for a front to back lint fill pattern that doesn't block incoming lint.  This also allowed a window to be used to indicate fullness.
  • Use of a flexible corrugated lint tube as opposed to the original solid tube
  • Validation and identification of marketing claims

Computer Technician (Full Time): Whirlpool Art Department 3/91 to 2/94. Designed and coded elaborate job-tracking/billing software for the department.  Also did much computerized graphic design: slide shows, logos, converting, etc.  Also prepared graphic arts media and maintained the departments computers and film processors.
