yup, I drew it An Ohta Fan Page by val Yes, I drew the picture at left! Can you tell I'm a CLAMP fan? :)

Update! New! Update! Wow, I completely lost track of this site when I discovered that some of what was being credited to Ohta-san wasn't actually OUR Ohta. I got very distracted, and I'm not sure if I'll ever get back on track with the rest of his career. This is only an update to acknowledge that I do love the site, and I should really get on the ball with providing more content for the Ohta fans. My first update will be a new drawing of Ohta for this page.
2001 Update: Wow, this site has gotten rather popular. It was Site of the Month on Iron Fans Online, one of my favourite Iron Chef sites. Hopefully soon I will be sporting the official Iron Fans Online T-shirt!! Arigatou, Shaun-kun!! Apparently I've also gotten a mention in the email newsletter "Y-Life Daily". Check it out! Arigatou, Yahoo!

I had a dream and Ohta was in it! Yes, it's true. I had a dream that Ohta, myself, and Captain Ginyu from Dragonball Z were roommates at some convention thing. So like, we all became buddies. Why was I at a convention? Because everyone in my department at work had to go to one. My boss got to go to one in California, but I had to go somewhere lame, it was either Oklahoma or Missouri (no offense). Anyway, I get to this convention and discover I'm rooming with Ohta and Ginyu, and you know how dreams are. Nothing seems strange. I was like "What up Ohta, Ginyu". Part of the convention involved toy construction equipment, such as cranes and dumptrucks and the like. My buddies and I made an enormous excavation site with ours, Now, I don't know whether it was the anime influences or watchin' too many martial arts movies, but in this dream, Ohta was an accomplished martial artist, and he was jealous that Sammo Hung was so popular and he was not. (We were watchin' a Sammo Hung movie in my dream.) But wait!! There's more!! The following year we all met up at the convention again, me and my good friends Ohta and Ginyu. We went to see what had become of the very cool excavation site we'd built the year before, and some kids had updated it and made it even cooler, with archways and underpasses big enough to crawl through!! That's the end of the dream. Here's an SD pic I drew of this event.

Nice, innit!! Haha. The creepy thing is: I got laid off from my job the next day. OH CRUEL HARBINGER! Just kiddin! Well, not about the getting laid off part. I really did. Here's a comic I made of my Thursday.

OK, this is actually all the update I have right now. (All the update? Hah, all your update are belong to us.) Please peruse the rest of the site at your leisure ^_^

My list of anime that Ohta has been involved in What, you haven't looked at it yet?! I'm slowly compiling it from various bizarre sources.
Iron Steph's Iron Chef Site I know, it's on my link list, she's linked me :-) Plus it's the best Iron Chef site ever.
Another Dr. Slump link. Have I mentioned I love Dr. Slump? If you haven't looked at my mini-list of Seiyuu work, you may not know that I've acquired some episodes of the late-90's version of Dr. Slump (in which Ohta voiced the character of Tarou). It's brilliant. I wish I had all the episodes. Plus the original episodes from the early 80's. Plus all the original manga by my hero Toriyama Akira. Ohta's been involved with two Toriyama-related shows, Dr. Slump and Dragonball GT. How cool is that!

I guess I should discuss why I think Ohta is the best part of Iron Chef. Is it because he can list off ingredients as fast as Chen can add them? Is it because of the post-battle interviews? Is it because he stays a step ahead of the panel? Or is it because he knows how to shake things up when talking with the chefs...? In my opinion, it's all these things. I finally got to see the New York battle, and I was sorely dissappointed. My favourite people (Ohta and Chen) weren't there, and there were almost no Kaga moments at all. I'm not trying to diminish the work of the girl who replaced Ohta as kitchen reporter, she did fine, but it wasn't the same. I wish I knew sometimes why I prefer one voice over another, I can't really say. But for this fan, the show just wasn't the same without his "Fukui-san!" He's the ingredient that ties the whole show together :-)

I wish I knew what it was that I love about Iron Chef. I get so involved... I feel emotionally attached to the chefs and the judges. Not always a positive emotion, though!! (Meanwhile, I sit on the sofa and eat take-out.) I had never thought of cooking as an art form before, but after learning more about it and eating some *real* fine cuisine (No matter how much you like it, Bennigan's is *not* fine cuisine), I've developed a rather discriminating palate.

This page is dedicated to my favourite Kitchen Stadium reporter, Ohta Shinichiro. I hope to have lots of content here someday but for now this is all I have. I think Ohta is great because he always knows what is going on, always has exactly the information everyone needs, and he does it so enthusiastically. I love the post-battle interviews, too. You have to admit, without Ohta, Iron Chef would hardly be as enjoyable! He's cute, too, I wish he'd get more face time :)
For clarification, Ohta is his surname and Shinichiro is his given name. They say it that way in Japan so I'm going to use their name order. Here is the first link, it is in Japanese:

List of all his work from the Japanese Voice Actor database.
*** NOTE: some of this page is erroneous. It attributes things to Our Ohta that are actually done by another Shinichirou Ohta (different kanji in the names). This is what I've been trying to investigate for the past few months.

Wahey! I found a mini-list in English! With links to some of the more popular series. I found this on Hitoshi Doi's database, if you haven't been there and you like anime you should check it out. This is where I go for all my anime voice actor questions.
But I have been compiling my own little list of his seiyuuing. It is in no way complete, but here is a small sampling of his anime: Val's list of Ohta seiyuuing

I used the Kanji symbols for his name from this page and translated the following meaning for the name Ohta ( c ): Plump Rice Paddy. Then I translated the following for the name Shinichiro ( ^Y ): True One Son. I do not know whether this is correct or not, it's just what it looked to me. If you have any corrections (and can tell me in a polite manner!) please mail me.

Also according to that page, his birthday is March 20 (Pisces), and his blood type is A. Click here to find out why blood type is so important in Japanese culture!. It is very interesting, and very true! (I am type O, incidentally)

Here are some other Ohta links for you:

An Unofficial Iron Chef Fansite my favourite place for Iron Chef related information, while FujiTV is still working on their website. (read: no Ohta content yet)
Iron Chef haiku fun haikus, and you can submit your own! They put mine up :)
Iron Fans Online this is the video section. There is a video labelled "Ota's commercial (?)". They are not sure if this is an Ohta commercial or not. When I find out, I will update this page. You should also check out the themes and icons here, very nice.
Hey, they've linked my Iron Chef/ Dragonball Z crossover semi-manga! cool!
IMDB listing only has Dr Slump, Marmalade Boy, and Dragonball GT, in addition to Iron Chef (Ryori no Tetsujin).

Other links that may be useful:
Jeffrey's Japanese-English Dictionary with a variety of ways to look up words, names, legal terms, and life-science terms; as well as a database of Kanji information. Very easy to use.
Japanese.about.com a nice site to start learning Japanese if you can't take a class or purchase courseware. If you think you might want to learn, but it would be to hard, go through here to find out how well you take to it!
My index of my own personal things This is mostly manga-type art and fanfics. I highly reccommend the Space Ghost/ Dragonball Z crossover ^_^

I am not finished with this page! I will hopefully be adding content on a regular basis or as I find it. Thanks for visiting!
