§*ß*§ Epilogue §*ß*§

Upon a Midnight Clear

Sometime, in the wee hours of the night, the drug-induced cloud parted, and Helena was once again able to think clearly. She laid in her hospital bed, fully restrained by cloth strips, gazing off into the bleak darkness.

She remembered the stark misery she had felt during her visit to the future.

She didn't want to end up that way....

That was the main thing that was troubling her. After today's events, she wanted to make sure that her 'family' paid for their sins against her, but she would do anything to stop Nikolas from losing his sanity and, in his crazed frenzy, from killing her.

She couldn't let that happen...

This weighed heavily upon her, the fact that she had to save herself from such a dreadful fate.

But, then, Stefan's words came to mind...

Only you have the power to decide what the real future holds. This is just a possible outcome...

It was at this moment that the realization hit her.  The words truly sunk in. Her eyes glittered in delight and she started to laugh. The rough, throaty sound echoed through the hospital. In her glee, she really didn't care.

Because they couldn't hold her too much longer...

...And she had now found a way to solve her dilemma.

Stefan, Nikolas, and Luke wouldn't be able to kill her...

if she killed them first....
