Butterflies Mmhmn mmhmn Lately when I look into your eyes I realize You're the only one I need in my life Baby I just don't know how to describe How lovely you made me feel inside Alexis looked at her reflection in the mirror, not sure if her outfit was right for tonight. She couldn't believe that this day had finally arrived. It had been a long journey for them both. Death and heartache had stood in their way, not to mention all their own fears and insecurities. She took a shaky breath before walking downstairs, where he was reading Michael his bedtime story. But tonight it was an early bedtime story. "Another one!" Michael exclaimed excitedly. "Leticia will read you another one later," Sonny said, tickling his son. "Stop daddy!" he cried between giggles. Sonny ceased tickling his son when he noticed her walking down the stairs. "I bet Leticia has your snack ready," Sonny told Michael but he never took his eyes off Alexis. They held each others gaze as Michael jumped down from the couch and headed to the kitchen. "You look beautiful.” Alexis shifted her weight nervously, feeling unbelievably unsure of herself. "You really like it?" You give me butterflyz Got me flying so high in the sky I can't control the butterflyz You give me butterflyz Got me flying so high in the sky I can't control the butterflyz "Yes," he said rising off the couch and joining her at the bottom of the stairs. Alexis touched his face gently. Neither of them had said anything about today’s date but Alexis was sure that he was thinking about Carly today. "I love you, Sonny." He flashed his dimples. "I love you, too!" he said, kissing her sweetly. They both were breathless when the kiss ended. "You ready?" he asked, holding out his hand to her. She nodded nervously. "Yes." "Leticia, we’re leaving now," Sonny called in the direction of the kitchen. "Bye Daddy! Bye Lex!" Michael yelled back, causing them both to laugh. His mouth was obviously full of cookies. Limo They rode in silence for a while. Alexis caught him looking at her and she moved closer to him, wrapping her arms around his waist and laying her head on his chest. "Want to tell me where we’re going?" "No. It wouldn't be a surprise then, wouldn’t it?" He ran his hand up her back pulling her more tightly against him. She pulled away from him slightly and gave him that ‘pout look’ that always led to her getting her way. "Sorry babe, that look isn’t going to work this time." She laughed as she playfully hit his arm. "You’re no fun!" she teased. "I'm sure you won't think so later," he replied with a wink. She didn't get to comment on his remark though as the limo came to a stop. She looked out the window and felt her chest tighten when she realized they were at the cemetery. She looked at Sonny, catching a glimpse of the pain and regret in his eyes before it disappeared. "I’ll only be a second," he whispered, before climbing out of the limo. "Sonny," Alexis whispered his name causing him to look back her. "I need to do this," Sonny said, knowing that he would never be truly free until he did. Deep down Alexis knew that this was something he had needed to do for a long time. She had to admit, she would have rather not been witness to it. She reached for a drink but suddenly remembered that wasn't such a good idea. She leaned back in the seat and closed her eyes to wait for Sonny’s return. Sonny made his way to her resting place. He hadn’t been there since the day of her funeral, one year ago today. One year after the explosion that claimed the life of his wife, the father of her child and Joseph Sorel. He laid a single yellow rose on her grave and ran his fingers over her name engraved in the stone. "I'm sorry it's taken me so long to visit," he whispered. "I loved you Carly and a part of me will always love you. Michael is getting bigger every day. You would be so proud of him. And you have my word that he will never forget his mother and I will make sure that he knows how much you loved him," Sonny vowed, his throat constricting as he held back a sob, the familiar guilt and regret resurfacing. Sonny shook his head to keep the tears at bay. "I always understood why you did what you did Carly. I just couldn't forgive you for it. But I never stopped loving you. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to made things right between us." Sonny reached into his pocket and pulled out his wedding ring. "I'm in love, again," Sonny said with a smile. "I know you always saw something between Alexis and I that I never saw, at least not until you were gone. I wouldn’t have survived this year without her love and support. She's actually the reason I came here today.” Sonny paused, taking a deep breath. “I will never forget you or the love you brought into my life. Goodbye Carly," Sonny picked up the rose from the headstone and brought it to his nose, inhaling deeply. He slipped the ring on the stem and replaced the rose on the stone, running his fingertips once more across her name before he walked away. * * * * * Alexis sat up as he climbed into the limo. They held each others graze. "You okay?" "Yes," Sonny said, pulling her to him. Alexis looked at him closely not sure if she believed him. "Maybe we should just go home," she suggested, running a hand down his cheek. "I'm Fine. In fact, I feel better than I have in a long time," Sonny reassured her. "Besides, don't you want to know about your surprise." Sonny smiled a mischievous grin, his dimples showing. Alexis smiled remembering how curious she was to know what he was up to. Stopping at the cemetery had thrown her. "Of course I want my surprise,” she told him, her face lightly up like a child’s. Sonny loved to see that light in her eyes. It made his heart swell with the love he felt for the woman beside him. They rode the rest of the way to his secret destination in silence. Both of them were nervous and excited about what tonight would bring. Sonny was pretty sure that Alexis had some idea as to his plans and he was anxious for her reactio. The limo finally came to a stop and Alexis looked out the window, seeing nothing but grass and trees. "Where are we?" You give me butterflyz Got me flying so high in the sky I can't control the butterflyz Sonny didn't answer her. Instead he took her hand and pulled her out of the limo. Alexis watched Johnny walking toward them, appearing from the edge of the trees. "Everything is ready," he told his boss. "Good. Have the driver come back for us in a two hours," Sonny said, giving Alexis’s hand a gentle squeeze before leading her in the direction Johnny had come from. He led her past a few tress until they came to a clearing. She gasped in shock. He had a blanket laying on the ground and there was soft music playing. "You like?" Sonny asked. She looked around taking in the scene completely before speaking. He had just made her love him more, which Alexis didn't think was even possible. "I love it!" "Come here." Sonny motioned to the spot beside him on the blanket. She dropped down beside him, placing an unexpected kiss on his lips. He held her tight as he got lost in the heat of her mouth. He felt her hands roaming his body but when they attempted to unbutton his shirt, he pulled back. “You’re not disappointed that I brought you here?" "No. But I have to say, I'm a little surprised," Alexis answered looking around at her surroundings again. The moon shone behind them, casting a magic glow through the trees. "This is a beautiful spot," Alexis said, slipping off her shoes and letting her toes sink into the moist grass. Sonny was pleased that she was happy with his choice. "This place is where I come to think," he admitted. Alexis turned to meet his graze. "Thank you for sharing it with me." You and I are destiny I know now you were made for me Oh oh ooh I can't control it It's driving me Taking me over "I want to share everything with you."Sonny said, moving closer to her. Alexis swallowed hard at the intensity of his dark eyes. She smiled weakly at him, some of her earlier insecurities resurfacing, as his fingers danced across her skin. Her eyes started to drift shut. "I love you," Sonny whispered, near her ear. "I know. I love you too.” "I can't believe that we’re here and I'm really doing this," Sonny said suddenly. "What?" Alexis said, suddenly a little scared. "After Carly I didn't think I would ever want to be married again. I didn't want to open myself up to that kind of pain again..." Sonny paused when he saw Alexis look away. You give me butterflyz Got me flying so high in the sky I can't control the butterflyz You give me butterflyz Got me flying so high in the sky I can't control the butterflyz He touched her chin, making her look back at him. "Until now. I love you Alexis. I want you to be my wife." Sonny reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black box. Alexis gasped in surprise, tears of joy flooding her eyes. "Sonny, I don't know what to say!" He laughed at how cute she looked. He was pleased once again that he was able to surprise her and make her so happy. "Yes would be nice." he said while slipping the ring on her finger. She looked from her finger to his smiling face, knowing without a doubt that she was where she was always meant to be. "Yes!" She smiled brightly at him, the tears glistening in her eyes. She didn’t know she could be this happy. "Really?" Sonny was shocked. He expected her to be more reluctant, knowing how she felt about marriage. "Yes really. I love you Sonny!" "I know that, I just want to know if you’re ready to make this forever." "Forever, huh. I think I can handle forever....as long as it’s with you!" Alexis whispered, a tear making its way down her cheek. "I love you and I trust you," Sonny said and he did. He had always trusted her. He could always count on her when there was no one else to trust. "I trust you with my life Sonny. I know that you will be protect me and....." She paused. "And what?" Sonny prodded gently "I just want you to know that I will always be honest with you!" Alexis knew how much he was entrusting to her and she needed to assure him that he would never regret his decision. "I know. One of the things I love about you is your honesty," Sonny teased, reminded of several times he could have done without her truth. He opened the bottle of wine and poured them each a glass. "No thanks," Alexis said nervously, shifting her eyes away from his face. Sonny raised a curious brow at her. She adored wine. "Is something wrong?" "No. Not really." She still couldn’t meet his gaze. "Tell me, Alexis," Sonny insisted, tilting her chin up so she would be forced to meet his eyes. She closed her eyes knowing she couldn’t avoid telling him any longer. She wanted to wait until after her appointment so she could be sure. But... She opened her eyes and looked at him. “I think I'm pregnant," Alexis whispered, holding her breath, not sure how he would feel. They had never talked about children. "You’re having my baby?" She nodded. "I think so. I have an appointment with the doctor in the morning." Alexis watched his face closely, trying to gauge his reaction. "I'm sorry, I know we haven't talked about having children..." Sonny silenced her with a kiss. With his kiss he tried to communicate all of the emotions cursing through his body; love, happiness, fulfillment and so many others that he couldn’t describe. They broke apart, breathless and Sonny laid down on the blanket, pulling Alexis with him. She was laying on her back and Sonny raised up on his elbow, placing a kiss on her abdomen before he laid back down and pulled her to him. They held each other tight, thinking about their future and their baby. They had both found themselves in the other. Sonny had found someone that understood and accepted him, for who and what he was. He in turn had given Alexis the same. They had finally found freedom and would soar together.
