Part 7 “Sonny.” Alexis sighed his name, momentary getting lost in the sweetness of his kiss. “I love you Alexis,” Sonny declared in a desperate, needy voice that shattered the lust that was quickly forming in her. Alexis had to ask herself if her feelings for Sonny were as deep as his feelings were for her. Was she in love with him? The answer to that question brought tears to her eyes. She stumbled away from him in shame and was overwhelmed with all the mixed emotions that she had experienced in the last few days. “I can’t do this,” she realized. “Why did you come here then?” Sonny asked just as overwhelmed by emotions as she was. “I needed answers,” she admitted with tears streaming down her face. When did she become such a fragile woman? She never used to show her emotions so openly. Alexis watched Sonny pacing the room, as her insecurities waged war with her confidence. “I’m sorry. Coming here was a mistake.” “I don’t think so,” Sonny challenged, not willing to let Alexis walk out of his life. “You have feelings for me. I felt them in your kiss.” “I care for you Sonny, that’s true, but I’m not in love with you.” “I don’t believe that,” Sonny answered moving toward her with the intention of proving her wrong with another kiss. But Alexis was already making her retreat from his embrace. “Don’t!” “Alexis please,” Sonny pleaded once more. “I have to go.” “Not until you explain to me what this was about?” Sonny demanded, catching her arm as she rushed past him. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have come here. I just needed to know if there was some truth in Jax’s accusation.” Sonny’s eyes became dark and stormy at the mention of Jax’s name. Alexis recognized his changing mood and assumed the worst. “Why did you wait until now to admit how you felt about me?” Her voiced was a mixture of anger and disappointment. “I didn’t think you felt the same way and I didn’t want to ruin our friendship, so I kept quiet.” “So when you found out that Jax had taken me, it made you realize just how much you loved and wanted me. Is that it?” “No, it’s not like that at all Alexis!” Sonny defended. “Then why don’t you me tell how it was!” “I love you and I want you. Nothing else should matter,” he whispered, his voice catching in his throat. Tears found their way to her eyes once more. Jax was right, Sonny was in love with her. But she also knew that it had a lot to do with Jax loving and wanting her too. “I am nothing like Brenda. I will not settle for being a prize for you, or any other man for that matter, place in your trophy case. This is more about your hatred for Jax than any love you may feel for me.” Sonny felt nauseous with her blunt statement. Was it true? Was the only reason he loved Alexis because he knew that Jax did? Did his hatred for Jax run that deeply? “I’m sorry Alexis but I really do love you and I think we could be great together,” Sonny said even though he knew she would never be his. “You love him, don’t you?” He sighed deeply, admitting defeat. Alexis trembled when she met Sonny’s sad eyes. She swallowed hard and spoke the only words she could, the truth. “Yes I’m in love with Jax!” “Then I think you should go.” “Sonny...” Alexis tried. “Just be happy Lex.” He gave her his blessing to love, even if it was Jax. He had to let her go. “I will. Thank you!” Tears started flowing freely down her cheeks and she threw her arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. “I do love you Sonny, you’re my best friend!” “I know. You’re mine too!” Love took me by the hand Love took me by surprise Love led me to you And love opened up my eyes Alexis was almost to the door when she suddenly stopped and turned back, looking him in the eyes. “I think you know where you’re true love lies.” Alexis offered him a smile before walking out the door. And out of his life. * * * * * Jax hadn't moved from his spot on the couch. He had no reason to move. Nothing mattered now that Alexis was gone. Jax closed his eyes as images of Alexis in Sonny’s arms flashed in his head. He was still so deeply hurt that she had betrayed him. Had he been wrong about Alexis and her love for him? Jax closed his eyes inhaling her scent that lingered on the pillow. Memories of the past few days filled him and his anger and pain disappeared for a moment. And I was drifting away like a drop in the ocean And now I realize that nothing has been as beautiful As when I saw heaven's skies In your eyes In your eyes He had been so lost in his memories of Alexis that he hadn’t heard the door open. Alexis was standing in the doorway watching him with tears in her eyes. She could see the pain that her leaving had caused him. Watching him now, there was no doubt of her love for him. And for the first time in her life, the thought of giving herself to someone completely wasn’t terrifying. Jax knew who she was and loved her in spite of it. And every time I drift away I lose myself in you And now I see I can be me In everything I do “Jax.” He turned quickly, finding her in the doorway. He hesitated for a moment, not sure if she was really there or if he was dreaming her because he needed her so desperately. . “You came back.” “I love you Jax,” she declared rushing to him. “You do?” Jax asked, searching her eyes for any hint of uncertainly. He didn’t want to open himself up to be hurt again. “I’m so sorry about the way I left. I was just so upset by your lack of trust in me and in us,” Alexis said sadly, remembering his wounded voice accusing her of being in love with Sonny. “I should have known that you couldn’t have made love to me so passionately if you…” The rest of his words were lost in her kisses. “I love you with all my heart!” Alexis breathed between spraying his face with tender kisses. She wanted to erase every doubt that he could possibly have. “I love you Alexis but I need to know that you love me and only me. What about Sonny?” Jax held his breath waiting for her response. Cause I was feeling as small as a drop in the ocean And now I realize that nothing has been as beautiful As when I saw heaven's skies In your eyes In your eyes “Sonny isn’t a problem, unless we let him be.” She ran her hands down his chest and looked up at his solemn face. Jax wanted to believe her but there was too much history between him and Sonny to let it go that easily. “I believe that you love me but I need to know that one morning I won’t wake up and you will have left to be with Sonny.” Alexis felt her eyes well with tears at the vulnerability that Jax was so freely showing her. She knew he was afraid of losing her. “I told you once before, I’m not Brenda. And if you'e looking for a replacement, well you'e with the wrong woman. I can’t be someone I’m not.” “I know you’re not Brenda. I’m not asking you to be. I've made my peace with Brenda and her memory. Yes I loved her. In fact, I didn’t think I could ever love another woman the way I had loved her. That is until the day I married you,” Jax admitted, sharing his soul with the woman that had captured his heart completely. He wanted her to know they were soul mates. The meaning of his words rippled through her, filling her with a sense of utter happiness, the kind of happiness that little girls dream of but never think will happen to them, especially not the Cassadine outsider. Alexis just could not believe that she was finding the missing piece of herself. In the last place she expected. “You were not in love with me when we got married!” She still wasn’t ready to accept that he loved her for whom she was. “You’re right, I didn’t think I was in love with you. But I was always aware of fact that there was something special between us. I never pursued it while I was your husband because I knew you were in love with Ned. But while I was searching for Brenda, I had a lot of time to think about my life and what I wanted and the times in my life that I was truly happy.” Jax paused, as he moved toward her. “Do you know when I was truly happy?” he whispered holding her eyes captive with his intense ones. He lightly ran his fingers over her cheek. Love took me by the hand Love took me by surprise Alexis slowly nodded her head. "No.’’ “When I was your husband. I have never felt more at peace with myself. That’s when I knew without a doubt that I loved you.” Tears filled his eyes with his admission. And I was drifting away like a drop in the ocean And now I've realized that nothing has been as beautiful As when I saw heaven's skies In your eyes In your eyes “I love you too.’’ She smiled, her dimples showing in her cheeks and she threw herself into his welcoming arms. Their mouths came together, sealing their promises of love. Both were sure that they were exactly where they were supposed to be all along. And they were so grateful to have been given a second chance to realize their love for each other. Song used is Michelle Branch - Drop In The Ocean The End |
