Prologue

Alexis climbed into her car.  She had a long trying meeting Dara about Zander's case.  She had headache and all she wanted was some aspirins and a hot bath.  She threw her briefcase in the back seat and hear a loud moan.  She froze for a moment, not sure what to do.  Scream?  Try to get out of car?  She couldn't think and she was afraid to turn around.

“What do you want?  I don't carry much cash on me,” Alexis said, fearing the intruder was bout to rob her.

“I know that, just drive.”

Alexis turned around upon hearing his voice.  “Jax?”

“Hi.”

Alexis recovered from her surprise of seeing Jax again so unexpectedly and her surprise turned to anger.  “What the hell are you doing in my car?  You scared the life out of me!” Alexis said hitting Jax in the arm.

“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to,” Jax said, running a hand through his uncombed hair.

Alexis noticed his unshaven face and his nervousness.  “What's wrong?”

“Alexis...”  Jax started looking around the parking lot.  “Let's get out of here first.  Then I’ll explain everything.”

Alexis looked at Jax for a few seconds before pulling out of the parking space.  Once they were on their way, he noticed Alexis was heading for home.

“You can't be seen with me,” Jax explained.

Alexis knew Jax was in trouble.  “What's going on?” she asked, looking at him in the rearview mirror.

“I'm sorry.  I shouldn't have gotten you involved in this,” he said, changing the subject.

“Please Jax, just tell me what's going on,” Alexis questioned again.

“I'm not sure,” he answered truthfully.

“Where do you want to go?” Alexis asked, dropping the subject for now.  If Jax was in trouble, she was going to help him.

“The cabin.”  He answered before closing his eyes.  He hadn't slept much in the last few days.

Carly walked off the elevator and instantly knew something was wrong.  Johnny wasn't at his post. Carly ran into the penthouse.  She froze in panic.

The furniture had been turned over, there was glass and paper scattered across the floor.

“Sonny!” Carly screamed running toward the stairs.  “Oh God!” she sobbed opening the bedroom door.  It had been torn apart like the rest of the penthouse.  “Sonny!” Carly screamed, moving toward the bed, noticing there was something or
someone under the covers.

Tears were streaming down her face as she stumbled closer to bed, tripping over the clothes that now covered the floor.  She tried to catch her breath and calm her pounding heart.

“Sonny?” Carly whispered touching the bed cover with a trembling hand.  She was terrified, as to what she might find.

Carly's screams filled the penthouse, as she stumble away from Johnny's lifeless body.  His throat had been cut.

“Oh my god!  Michael!!” Carly screamed, running toward her son's room.  Tears filled her eyes.  Michael was standing in his bed, playing with the boat Sonny had given him.

“Mamma!” he cried happily, unaware of the danger he had been in.  Carly picked Michael up holding him tight, tears of joy running down her face.  She was thankful that her baby was unharmed.

Carly screamed and jumped, when the phone rang suddenly.  “Help me!” she screamed into the phone, not giving the person on the line chance to say anything.

“Carly, what's wrong?” he asked.

“Jason?”

Jax walked into the cabin, Alexis following close behind.  “What happened?” Alexis asked again.  She wasn't going to let him of the hook this time.  She wanted to know what had him looking so lost.

“I found Brenda.  She didn't remember me at first but soon her memory returned.  I thought things were going to be great for us.  We had been given a second chance.  But something wasn't right.  I couldn’t put my finger on it at first,” Jax said, pacing around the cabin.

“I don't understand,” Alexis said, confused.

“Brenda tried to kill me,” he whispered.

“My God Jax!  Why?” she asked in disbelief.

“I don't know.  She was getting these phone call from someone.  Her mood would change after the calls but she would never tell me who was calling,” Jax explained.  He stopped his pacing abruptly and turned to Alexis.  “Thanks for bringing me here but you have to go!”

“Jax...”  Alexis started to say more but Jax cut her off.

“Please, I don't want anything to happen to you because of me,” he whispered.

Alexis agreed, much to his surprise.  He thought she would put up more of a fight.

Alexis was almost to her car when she heard Jax calling her name.

She walked back toward the cabin as an explosion filled the air and rocked the earth.  The force sent Alexis flying several feet, knocking her to the ground.

Jax quickly ran toward her.  “Alexis?”

Jax turned her over.  She was unconscious.  “Oh God!” Jax cried when he removed his hand from her head.  It was covered in blood.
