Absence Of Fear Carly was lying across her bed, thinking about Sonny and what her life would be like as his wife. She couldn't see being married to him, knowing that he didn’t love or trust her. Carly wiped tears from her eyes as she realized just how much she wanted his love and trust. Inside my skin There is this space... It twists and turns It bleeds and aches Sonny was having a drink trying not to think about Carly. Jason walked in. "Hey," Sonny said, not looking at Jason. "Hey Sonny. I ran into Alexis tonight," Jason said. Sonny looked into his glass, still not looking at Jason. "She told you about taking Carly out of the country?" "Yea," was all Jason said. He knew his friend had his reasons for not asking him to take Carly away. "Sonny what’s going on with you and Carly? I mean, I'm willing to take Carly and Michael away. And you knew that but why didn’t you ask me?” "Jason, you just got back and if you take Carly away, you won't ever be able to come home again. I couldn’t ask that of you." "Sonny..." Jason started but Sonny cut him off. "Jason this is my problem. I don't need you to fix it," Sonny said, fixing himself another drink. "Sonny?" "What?" "You want to marry her, don't you? And it’s not just because of the trail is it?" Jason questioned. Sonny didn't know how to answer Jason's questions. He wasn't sure what his feelings were. He was too afraid of them to even admit he had them. Once Jason realized that Sonny wasn't going say anymore, he walked to door. "Sonny, you need to be honest with yourself and with her," Jason said, as he walked out of the penthouse. Inside my heart There's an empty room. It's waiting for lightning; It's waiting for you I am wanting, and... I am needing you To be here Inside the absence of fear Sonny was on his way to his bedroom when he noticed Carly’s light was still on. Jason’s words replayed in his mind. ‘You need to be honest with yourself and with her.’ Sonny knocked on her door. "Come in." Sonny stuck his head in the room."Can I talk to you?" Carly sat up in bed and nodded. She watched him as he walked into the room. "So what do you want to talk about?" "Us," Sonny said, sitting down beside her on the bed. "Sonny, if you think I'm going to marry you..." Sonny placed a finger on her lips, silencing her. "Carly, please, I need you to listen to me!" Carly saw something different in his eyes. "Carly, Jason came to see me tonight and he offered to take you and Michael out of the country?" Carly felt the tears threaten to fall. "When do we leave?" "You’re not." "What?" a very surprised Carly asked. "I don't want you to go," Sonny whispered. "Why Sonny? You don't trust me, so why would you want me to stay?" Carly asked. "Carly, I don't give my trust that easily, and you know that," Sonny said. He stood and started pacing the room. “You still haven't answered my question. Why do you want me to stay and be your wife, if you don't trust me?" Muscles and sinew Velvet and stone... This vessel is haunted It creaks and moans My bones call to you In a separate skin. I make myself translucent To let you in, boy... I am wanting, and... I am needing you To be here Inside the absence of fear "Carly I..." Sonny closed his eyes, knowing there was no turning back. "I love you Carly" Sonny whispered so softly, Carly wasn't sure if he had spoken the words that she had wanted to hear for so long. "What did you say?" Sonny walked back to the bed and dropped to his knees, looking into her eyes. "I love you Carly and I know you’re just trying to help Mike and me. It was just so much easier to be angry at you than to admit that I was falling in love with you. Love terrifies me. Everyone that I have ever loved and let into my heart has betrayed me or died. And I wasn't going to let it happen again.” "And that’s what I did. I betrayed you," Carly whispered. "You didn't betrayed me. You were trying to spare me the pain of my father’s betrayal. I know that you were only trying to help me. I was just being a jerk." "Because your were afraid to love me?" "Yes! I never expected to feel this way." "I know Sonny. It was a shock to me and I'm scared too." Carly smiled. "Carly, Jason said something tonight. He said that I should be honest with you and myself about my eelings. I don't know what the future holds for us, but I'm not afraid to find out anymore. I love you." "I love you too, Sonny but I can't promise you that I won't mess up. I always do that." Sonny laughed at the truth falling from her lips. It was a turning point for them. The fear that was there was gone and in it's place something new and wonderful had taken root. Something that they had never expected to find. Love. "I can't promise you that I won't screw up either." "So now what?" Carly asked. "Will you marry me? I promise that I will try my best not to screw this up," Sonny said as he wiped new tears from her cheek. There is the splendor of this Secret inside of me And it knows that you're no stranger, You're my gravity My hands will adore you Through all darkness, and they will Lay you out in moonlight And reinvent your name For I am wanting, and... I am needing you To be here... I need you near... Inside the absence of fear "Yes I will marry you. I've been was waiting for you to say those words to me but I never thought it would actually happen. I can't promise that I won't hurt you but I can promise that I will try my best not to. I love you, Sonny," Carly whispered before his lips crashed down on hers. Their future was still uncertain but then again who's future is certain. All they could do was live each day to the most and not give into the fear. The End The song used is "Absence of Fear"By Jewel |
