Chapter 1 The force of the impact send them flying through the opening in the side of the aircraft. .Alexis landed on top of Sonny. His eyes flew open and he moaned. Alexis wasn't sure if the fall or the weight of her body had awakened him but she was thankful either way. "Alexis?" Sonny questioned, his eyes still clouded with confusion and pain from the crash. "Sonny!" Alexis sobbed. She was so happy he was finally awake. His eyes were as dark at the sky overhead. Sonny swore, closing his eyes in pain. Alexis assumed the foul language was a result of the pain and moved off of him slowly. She watched his face closely while settling herself beside him. After several seconds, he opened his eyes again, searching out her face. "We crashed." Alexis nodded, moving a piece of hair away from a gash on his forehead. Wincing in pain, Sonny moved to touch the large cut Alexis had just uncovered but she stopped his hand before he could touch it. “Be careful. We don’t want to get that infected.” Alexis ripped a few inches off the bottom of her blouse and wrapped it around Sonny’s head to stop the bleeding and hopefully keep the cut clean until they could find some water to wash it properly. When Alexis had finished tending to him, Sonny tried to sit up. She moved so she could support his back in case he was a little dizzy from the head wound. "Where is everybody else?" "They’re all dead," she answered, her voice catching in her throat. "Are you sure?" Sonny asked, trying to stand but swaying slightly. Alexis wrapped her arm around his waist to steady him. Alexis bit her lower lip. “I didn't check for pulses, if that’s what you’re asking. But I didn’t see anyone else moving. There weren’t that many people on the plane to begin with.” When the dizziness receded and he was able to stand on his own, Alexis removed her arm from around him and moved to stand in front of him so she could see him better. "How do you feel?" "Like I'm going to be sick," he admitted. He took a couple of deep breaths and felt a little better. He smiled at her to let her know that he was keep his nausea at bay. She returned his smile, glad to know he was going to be okay. She wasn’t alone in this any more. Speaking of which, "What were you doing on the plane anyway?" "Jason called me. He's in trouble and wanted me to meet him in LA." "Ohh," Another deafening thunder clap was heard and a heavy rain started. Lighting flashed around them. "We need to get out of this storm," Sonny said. "Wait here while I go check the others." He didn't give her a chance to object, disappearing back into the unstable plane. Alexis dropped to her knees, all the emotions and pain catching up with her. She wanted to crawl into a ball and cry but she didn't. She had hope of surviving now that Sonny was with her. She could hear him moving around the plane and was feeling uneasy watching the plane sway slightly from the high winds of the storm. "Sonny!" Alexis screamed as another flash of lightening struck close by. She jumped to her feet, wrapping her arms around her body and willing Sonny to hurry. She couldn’t bear it if something happened to him. Alexis looked around her, trying to take in the scene through the pouring rain. The plane was near a cliff and it wouldn’t take much for it go over the edge. "Sonny, you need to get off the plane before it falls over the cliff!" Alexis called, her panic raising. "We need supplies," Sonny yelled back at her, as he continued to search for survivors and useful supplies. "Sonny!" Alexis yelled through the opening. "Stay back!" he warned. "I'm going to throw out some things we’re going to need." "Please hurry," Alexis begged, moving so she could take the supplies from him. Sonny threw out a few blankets, a first aid kit and several backpacks. The lighting crashed near them again, striking a tree. A few branches fell near her feet. "Hurry Sonny!" Alexis screamed, trying to keep her body from trembling. She was soaked to the skin and with the wind, she was freezing. "I'm Coming!" He was just about to climb out when Alexis screamed, "Sonny watch out!" A tree fell in front of the opening, obstructing his view of Alexis. "Alexis!" Sonny called out to her, as the plane rocked again. She had tried to get out of the path of the falling tree but she wasn’t fast enough. Sonny managed to squeeze between the opening and the fallen tree and he began a frantic search for Alexis. "Alexis!” Sonny cried, spotting her still body under some of the branches of the fallen tree. "Oh my God. Alexis!" He quickly moved the branches off her. "Please be alive!" he prayed. He didn't want to be alone, any more than Alexis did. They needed each other to survive. He thanked the heavens above when she finally moaned. "Open your eyes Alexis, look at me. I need to know that you’re here with me," Sonny said without thought to his words. Her eyes snapped open, hearing the desperation in his voice. "What happened?" she managed to get out before a pain shot through her body. "A tree fell on you." "Are you okay?" she asked, looking at him closely. "I'm fine. You’re the one that’s hurt. Can you stand?" "I think so." "We need to find some shelter. And soon!" Sonny advised, looking around as the rain continued to pour down on them. "Good idea." Sonny stood. "Let me get the supplies. Don't move." She didn't. She wasn’t even sure if she could move. She watched as he gathered up the things that would hopefully keep them alive until help arrived. He was now standing in front of her, the supplies at his feet. "You ready?" "I guess so," Alexis murmured. He offered her his hands and helped her to her feet. Once she was on her feet, she realized that her ankle was injured. "Ouch!" "What is it?" Sonny asked, steadying her with his arm around her waist, much like she had done for him earlier. "My ankle, I think I broke it." "Damn!" Sonny cursed. He knew Alexis wasn't going to be able to walk anywhere on that bad ankle but they needed to get out the rain if they were going to survive. |
