| Chapter 2 They stared at each other, as the rain continued to pour down on them. " I can make it Sonny. " Alexis cried, trying to convince them both. Sonny could tell by the expression on her face, that she was in an enormous amount of pain. " Alexis, you'll never make on that ankle " Sonny said, helping her to the ground. Lightning flashes across the night sky, the thunder rumbled seconds later. The storm seemed to be intensifying with each passing moment. Shelter was a necessity for their survival. " Go find shelter Sonny!" Alexis pleaded. " I won't leave you. " Sonny vowed. He would not leave her alone, they would find shelter together. " Sonny this is not the time to be stubborn, go look for shelter. " Alexis said sobbing in pain, and fear of the situation they found themselves in. Sonny knew she was right; now was not the time for stubbornness. The most important thing was getting them both to shelter. He closed his eyes letting the rain, wash away tears of despair. Alexis watched his face closely seeing all the emotions that he desperately wanted to hide from her. She knew that he was just as frightened as she was. She wanted to offer comfort to him, but thought better of it, knowing how he prided himself on being able to keep his emotions hidden form the world. she didn't have the heart to bruise his ego with comfort. She was about to speak, when he took her hand in his giving it a gentle squeeze. " I will be back for you as soon as I can. "he whispered softly. She closed her eyes as a wave of relief swept through her. she was grateful that he was going to look for shelter, but at the same time she was filled with a sense of dread at the thought of being left alone. Her eyes drifted shut briefly and her body trembled. Alexis wasn't sure if it was from the cold rain pouring down, are knowing she might be alone for an hours. Sonny sensed her fears and wanted to reassure her, but he didn't know how exactly. " Alexis, I won't abandon you. I'm only going a few miles, If I haven't found shelter by then, I will come back. " Sonny promised. Alexis insecurities overwhelmed her once again. " Promise," she whispered in a childlike voice. Sonny kneel down beside her, he touched her face gently, he gave her a quick kiss on the forehead. " I promise. " Sonny stood suddenly, he gathered the supplies quickly, he knew he wouldn't be able to carry her and the supplies at the same time. Sonny paused looking down at her trembling form the cold rain soaking her. His heart was full of so many conflicting emotions, he didn't want to leave her there along in the storm unprotected. Sonny hated the way this situation made him feel, childhood memories had overwhelmed him, Memories of a helpless boy, wanting desperately to protect his mother, in which he had failed her terribly, now another woman's life was in his hands. This time he would be brave and strong, he could do this, he would save them both. Sonny handed her a blanket, not that it would offer much protection in all this rain. Alexis watched him disappeared into the darkness, she wrapped the blanket a around her. she slowly rocked back and forth, willing her fears away. She had faith in Sonny's ability to find shelter and to keep her safe. she looked up at the dark sky praying for the storm to end. "Please hurry Sonny. " she whispered, listening to the sounds of the night, The crickets chirped, the owls hooted from nearby trees. " Hurry, hurry. " she chanted. Sonny was anxious to get back. His eyes, missing nothing, he took note of his surroundings, he prayed that he would be able to find his way back to her. He wasn't sure how far he had walked, his only thoughts were of Alexis and getting back to her. He had almost given up hope of finding shelter. When lightning flashed across the night sky, offering him a glimpse of something. He took deep breath, before allowing his feet to move. "Sonny, Sonny, Sonny. " she repeated his name over and over again. She rocked, mindlessly, waiting for his return. Her whole body was numb, she couldn't feel the ache in ankle anymore. Alexis was grateful that the storm seemed to be easing up some, the once pouring rain, was now only light drizzle. She was worried that something terrible had happened to him. It seemed that hours had passed by. In reality Sonny had only been gone 45 minutes. Alexis uttered a glad cry, when he appeared out of the darkness. "Thank God!" she whispered. They hugged each other tightly for a long moment, Sonny pressed Alexis's face into his neck and rubbed his hands up and down her back until her wracking sobs subsided. " You came back. " " I promised you I would. come on let's get you out of this rain." Sonny said lifting her into his arms. " You found shelter ?" she questioned him. " I found a cave, it's not that far. " he assured her. She closed her eyes, her head was resting on his shoulders, suddenly she felt safe. He carried her into the cave, gently he laid her on the ground. They watched each other for several seconds neither of them knew what to say. Sonny finally broke the awkward silence between them. " You need to get out of those wet clothes. " Sonny kneeled down beside her. His hands moved to the front of her blouse. Reflectively her hands flew up and clenched the material to her body. " what do you think you're doing? " She stammered, suppressing a wave of dizziness. " Alexis, you're cold and hurt. The first thing we need to do is to get you out of the these clothes." He explained. All through the night I’ll be watching over you And through the bad dreams I’ll be right there, baby They stared deeply into each other's eyes. Once again his hand reached towards the front of her blouse, and this time she didn't stop them. He unbuttoned it quickly, he slide off her shoulders. She inhale a deep breath, when his hands went to her black lacy bra. Her cheeks turned red as her bare breasts were revealed to him. Holding your hand, telling you everything is all right And when you cry I’ll be right there Sonny quickly slipped a dry shirt around her shoulders, she slid her arms through the shirt. Alexis breathing grew faster; when his hands went to her skirt. " It has to come off, Alexis. " She nodded, before lifting her hips off the ground making it easier for him to remove the skirt. He seemed momentarily entranced by her beauty. Sonny knew that this was not easy for her, like him she relied on herself, and hated needing help from anyone. Sonny helped her into a pair and jeans, he had been slow and tender not wanting to cause her anymore pain. Now that she was in dry clothes. He touched her face gently, there eyes were locked in intense stare. Both knew that things between them would never be the same. None of that matter right now, survival was the only that matter. Telling you were never anything less than beautiful So don’t you worry I’m your Angel standing by Sonny and Alexis knew they would have trust each other, and that was a hard thing for the both to do. Would they be able to let down their emotional walls, for survival? Time would tell. |
