Chapter 5

Alexis sobbed softly; Sonny wrapped his arms around her. "We"re going to be ok, Alexis."His words were supposed to bring her comfort.  Sonny was shocked by her reaction.

"No Sonny we are not going to be ok." Alexis yelled, pushing him away."WE ARE IN MIDDLE OF NOWHERE, WE HAVE NO FOOD, OR WATER." She paused taking a shaky breath. "You don't even know if anyone is searching for us," Alexis choked.

"Take it easy Baby, you need to breathe,"Sonny said.  He was worried the last thing he needed was her to have a panic attack; they didn't have any brown bags handy.

Her eyes narrowed then she continued to vent her fears and worries. "I'm breathing Sonny, what's up with all this baby crap?"

"Excuse me?"

"That's the third time you called me baby today," Alexis accused the word was unnerving her.

Sonny had hoped that Alexis hadn't caught that last slip of the tongue. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it,"Sonny said, looking deep into her eyes.

"Then why say it?" Alexis asked, going into lawyer mood. That was the only part of herself that she trusted at the moment. She didn't like the look in his eyes; there was definitely something new shining in his dark eyes. "I told you, I could take care of myself. I don't need your comfort, what I need is the truth."

"I told you the truth Alexis, honestly." He was slightly hurt by her lack of trust. But he knew that she was scared, so was he but he would never admit that to Alexis.

Alexis watched as Sonny's eyes drifted closed, his breathing grow hard and shallow.
"Oh god, he is scared too." She thought panic once again filled her. "Sonny?"

"You're right we are in trouble. And there is not a damn thing, I can do about it either, the overwhelming helpless he felt was clearly heard in his voice.

Alexis stifled her sobs. Sonny had been taking care of her since the plane crash. She had never thought about his fear or even the guilt he was feeling. Alexis knew that Sonny was a man that liked to be in control; he hated giving that up for anyone. This situation they were in had to be killing his male pride. "God I'm so sorry Sonny."  Alexis whispered.

"For what ba- He caught himself; baby was about to roll on his lips again.

Alexis raised a brow at him and then smiled. "I have been thinking of only myself. And that isn't fair. Especially after everything you've done for me so far. I'm glad that we are in this together.  Forgive me."

"Aw Alexis there is nothing to forgive." Sonny said, tenderly touching her on the shoulder.

"I'm just so scared." Alexis sighed.

"So am I." Sonny admitted.

"Are you telling me everything Sonny? I couldn't bear it if you were holding back, Alexis said searching his eyes for the truth.

Sonny lowered his eyes; Alexis ran her fingers under his chin. The touch causes his eyes to find her again. "I have some ideas."

"About why we crashed?" Alexis asked, her voice laced with fear again. She almost regretted asking.

"Are you sure you want to know Alexis?" Sonny asked, seeing the mixed emotions in her eyes.

"No I'm not sure Sonny, but I need to know what we are up against."

"I think we were setup, I got this unusual phone call from on Jason. I had a bad feeling about it right from the start."

"What did Jason say?" Alexis asked.

"Just that he needed my help and to come to LA right away. I know that it was Jason but he didn't sound right.  Then the phone went dead before I could find out what was wrong."

"Do you think Jason set you up?"

"I'm not sure, I don't think he'd do it on purpose. Can I ask why you were going to LA?"

"I got a call from an old friend that needs my help, she and her husband are getting a divorce and she was afraid of losing her son. So I told her I would help her out."

"Did you tell anyone that you were going out of town?" Sonny asked softly.

"A few clients, that's it." Alexis said with a shrugged.

"I think someone made sure that we were on the same flight." Sonny  explained.

"Who would do something like that?"" Alexis frowned, even as the words pass her lips Helena face flashed in her head. " Helena, she promised me that I would pay for stealing my mother's necklace back."

It was Sonny turn to frown. "Oh didn't she try this with you and candy boy in the Sahara?" Sonny asked, "You'd think Helena would get a little more creative after awhile."

"This isn't funny Sonny, if Helena is the one behind this then we are in big trouble, she has hated me all my life...."

"I don't think this is about you, it's probably more about me than you."

"If this is about you then why am I here?" Alexis whispered afraid of the reason.

"To keep me under control, Alexis you mean a lot to me and my enemies know that." Sonny realized.

"I see. So me being your lawyer has gotten me in this mess?"

"No, you being my lawyer didn't get you here."Sonny whispered sweetly.

Alexis stood and tried to walk, but the pain in her ankle brought her back to ground. "You want to tell why I'm here then?" She stared at him.

"You're here because of how I feel about you," Sonny started, but she was already shaking her head in denial.

"Don't say it Sonny," Alexis warned on brink of another panic attack.

"I have to. There is something special happening between us. I know you feel it too," His hands touched her face softly.

"You're not thinking clearly, we're in the middle of nowhere and you're letting your fear speak for you," Alexis said, her body trembled with excitement and fear.

Sonny fingers slipped under her chin, she raised her eyes to meet his.  Alexis wasn't prepared for the passion she saw in him.

Sonny lowered his head to cover her mouth with his own. There was a deep sensual demand in him that she had never encountered before. It fascinated her, drew her deeper and deeper into him. Their lips clung as they learned the taste of each other.

Alexis trembled in anticipation as Sonny's hands slid slowly down her back. Sonny molded her to him; he wanted to make her aware of every detail of his hard body. Alexis tangled her fingers into his hair and traced the line of his neck down to his smooth, muscled shoulders. It felt so good to be held by the man that had been robbing her of sleep for weeks. Her nails sank briefly into the fabric of his shirt, and she sighed against his mouth. "Oh, yes Sonny."

*****

The sound of twigs snapping could be heard in the darkness. A man reached the creek; he dipped his hand in the cool water and splashed some water on his face.  In the distance he could see the firelight coming from the cave. He had been watching them since yesterday.  The lady was beautiful, she would be his soon.
