Part 3

Alexis stood in the mirror, looking at her sad reflection. She couldn't put off seeing him any longer; they had business to discuss.  She turned away from the mirror, picked up her purse and briefcase, and headed across the hall. Johnny's embarrassed face greeted her.  “Good morning, Ms Davis."

"Morning," she greeted, her eyes cast downward. "Is he in?"

"Yes, but he left strict orders for me not let you in," Johnny said regretfully.

"Johnny. I need to speak to him, I'm here as his attorney, nothing else," she said coldly.

Johnny debated -- he didn't want to cross his boss, but he knew that Sonny hadn't truly meant what he had said the previous evening.

"Johnny." Alexis pulled the bodyguard back into reality.  He offered her a shy smile and stepped aside, allowing her access to Sonny's door.

Alexis didn't bother to knock; she just pushed the door open and walked inside. She stopped dead in her tracks; the penthouse was in complete darkness. "Sonny?" she called, afraid to move.

"Go away, Alexis," he said from the darkness.

"I have those contracts ready for you, Sonny."

"Fine, leave them on the desk," he snapped.

"Sonny, I need to go over them with you," Alexis tried; she didn't really have to explain the documents. But she didn't want to leave yet. She wanted to talk, and tell him how she felt.

"Later Alexis, GET OUT!" he screamed, coming off the couch in a wild fury.

"What hell is wrong with you?" Alexis yelled, stepping back.

"Nothing, I just would like to be left alone!"

"Fine!"  she said, matching his tone, and headed for the door.  Alexis stopped, realizing what they were doing to each other.  "I'm not leaving until we talk about last night."

"There is nothing to talk about. I'm sure you and Jax will be very happy together."  He was voice was a mixture of anger and disgust.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, counting to ten. She had let her anger rule her last night. She wasn't about to let that happen today. "I really thought you knew me... I guess I was mistaken."

"What the hell does that mean?"  he asked, approaching her slowly.

"Do you honestly believe that I could just go from your bed and straight into Jax's?"

Sonny closed his eyes, upon hearing the disappointment in her voice. Deep down he knew he was being unfair to her. But he couldn't seem to stop himself for lashing out at her. She had rejected him, and it had hurt like hell. "I don't know what I believe anymore," he said, stepping within inches of her warm body.

"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I didn't mean for things to get so out of hand between us."

"Me either, I'm sorry too."

"Can we talk, I mean really talk and listen to what the other one is saying?"

"Yes."

"Good. Do you mind, if we turn on lights are open the drapes?” she asked, walking toward the window. She pulled back the drapes." I like to be able to see your sexy face," she admitted shyly.

Sonny blinked several times, trying to get his eyes accustomed to sunlight filling into the room. He moaned at the throbbing pain behind his eyes.

Alexis didn't have to ask him what was wrong. She knew a man with a killer hangover when she saw one. A smile tugged at her lips. He had been as upset about their fight as she had been, only he chose to drink his troubles away while she preferred her work -- she had stayed up most of the night working on one case  after another.  "Did it help?"

"Huh? What?" he asked, taking seat on the couch.

"Drinking, did it take the anger and pain away?"  She joined on the couch.

"No. Only gave me a killer headache." He admitted. "You said you wanted to talk?" She nodded." May I ask a question?"

"You may," she replied, her brow narrowed. She had already figured the question was going to be about Jax and their supposed affair he thought they were having.

"Do you love Jax?"

She had been right. Her breathing hitched slightly. "Boy, you get right to the point, don't you?"

"Yep, are you or are you not in love with Jax?" he pressed.

She sighed before answering his question. She wasn’t sure how to explain her feelings for Jax without hurting and confusing Sonny more than he already was." Sonny, Jax is my best friend, I do love him. But only as a friend."  She knew that answer hadn't pleased him at all.

"I see."

"Do you really, Sonny?" She pressed. "Remember, we are supposed to be telling each other the truth here."

"Yes, you and Jax are friends and you love him. I get it!"  he yelled.

"No, you don't get it at all," she said sadly.

"Explain it to me -- I really would like to understand, Alexis. Are you sleeping with him?"

She laughed and shook her head at him. "You're going to make me say it, aren't you? Fine. No, Jax and I aren't sleeping together Sonny, and I’m terribly hurt that you thought so," she said her voice high with emotions.

"I'm sorry, but what else was I suppose to think. It was at your place at 2 a.m. for gods sake!" He defended his bad judgment with more bad judgment.

"You were supposed to think that maybe Jax was there because he's my friend, and loves me and wanted to make sure I was doing all right. "

"I see," he said.

"Now what?" She knew that "I see” really meant that he was still not understanding at all.

"You trust Jax, not me," he said, hurt.

"What!"

"You heard me. You didn't want to be with me, you pushed me away. When I needed you the most. And you turned to Jax."

"You’re so wrong Sonny, I trust you with my life." She paused. " No, I trust with something fair more important than that -- my heart," she whispered.

His eyes land on her teary ones. "What are you saying, Alexis?"

"I'm saying that... I that I care... More so than I should. I knew that you still were in love with Carly. She was right, when she said that I wanted you." Alexis hated admitting that Carly had been right about anything.

"I wanted you too. For a long time, Alexis," Sonny admitted.

"Really?"

"Yes really. I told you that I needed you and I wanted you," he said, touching her face.

"I know." She was disappointed that he hadn't said that he loved her.

"Alexis, yes I loved Carly. But I could never trust her enough to let go of the past. I will always regret, not making things right between us. But I had come to realize that I didn't want her back in my life as a lover… friend, yes," Sonny explained.

"I'm sorry that you and Carly didn't get to make peace with the past," Alexis said, truly meaning it.

"So am I.  But I'm not going to spend the rest of my life beating myself up over it."

Alexis was surprised by his words and apparently it showed on her face. "Well, that’s a major," she whispered.

"What?"

"You not going to let your guilt of the past, rule your life," she said, proud of him.

"You shouldn't either. We did nothing wrong that night. I wanted you!"

"I know. And I wanted you too."

"Alexis."

"Can we start again?"

"Yes. I would like that very much," she smiled.

"Good, how about I cook you dinner tonight?"

"Yes. I'll bring the wine," she watched as he approached her. She knew he was going to kiss her.

The kiss was soft and sweet. He moaned, and tightened his hold on her when her lips parted. Their tongues played into the other’s mouth. Sonny stepped back. "You better go, if I kiss you again, I won't be able to stop.”

"Who says I want to stop?" she asked, before her mouth crashed down on his surprised mouth. " Oh Alexis," he sighed, lifting her into his arms.

The End..
