Chapter 8

“You bastard, you got her pregnant. Is that why she talked Jason into taking me away? So I wouldn’t find out about two of you?” Carly yelled, her eyes shining with tears and rage.

“Carly, it’s complicated,” Sonny said calmly. He knew Carly was about to explode and there was nothing he could say to stop it.

“Did you and she have a child or not?” Carly asked, moving to where he was sitting.

“Yes, we have a son....”Sonny tried to explain.

“You son of a bitch, you used me,” Carly screamed as she slapped him across the face.

Sonny closed his eyes and counted to ten, trying to kept his own emotions in check. He knew she was hurting and he didn’t want to make things worse. “I didn’t use you. Alexis and I met years ago before I even met you.” Sonny whispered softly.

“Bullshit...” Carly spat out, not believing him. “Why the hell didn’t you ever mention the fact that the two knew each before? Do you really think I’m that stupid?” Carly asked.

“Carly look, I know you’re upset, But I’m telling you the truth!” Sonny yelled, catching her hand before she could slap him again.

“TAKE YOUR DAMN HANDS OFF ME!!” Carly yelled pulling her hand free.

Sonny looked at her and sighed. “It’s late. Why don’t get some rest, because I know nothing I say is going to make sense to you tonight.” Sonny suggested.

Carly laughed. “I will never understand you...” Carly said kneeling down in front of Sonny. She looked into his eyes with disgust.  The love she felt for him was quickly dying. “I HATE YOU and I will never forget or forgive you for what you did to me,” Carly vowed, as her words brought tears to her eyes and they ran down her cheek. She wasn’t sure who she hated more, him or herself for letting down her guard and falling in love with him.

A tear slipped down Sonny’s cheek as well. Her face was so close to his. He could see the hatred and bitterness shining in her complicated eyes. “I’m Sorry...” Sonny whispered.

Carly closed her eyes and stood and walked toward the stairs before agreeing with him. “You’re right. You are SORRY!”

Sonny watched her climb the stairs. He didn’t move as Carly’s words played in his mind. He buried his face in his shaking hands.  Carly’s words had hit too close to home.

Carly walked into Michael’s room picking up the sleeping infant, who was not happy about being awakened from a peaceful sleep. He started to cry angrily as he had inherited his mother’s temper.

“Shhh, Little man. We’re getting out.” Carly whispered to her crying son. “We don’t belong here.”  Carly walked downstairs.  Michael was crying even louder now.

“Where are you going?” Sonny asked, worried about her.

“None of your...” Carly stopped and didn’t say what she wanted to say because Michael had stopped crying and was watching Sonny with a smile on his little face that make her hatred for him grow stronger. She had not only had allowed him into her life foolishly but her son’s life as well. “I’m leaving,” Carly explained.

“Carly it’s late. Where will you go?”

“That’s not your problem. I can take care of myself just fine. I’d rather sleep on the streets than spend another moment with you!” Carly said, as she opened the front door and walked out without looking back.

I love you,” Jason said after they had both caught their breath.

“I love you too,” Elizabeth whispered. She meant it too. She knew in her heart that she loved Jason.  She didn’t know about the future and what it held for them. All she knew was there was this life they had created and it deserved to be loved. “Jason?”

“Hmmm,” he replied sleepily in her ear as nibbled her earlobe.

“I know you love me. What about the baby? Do you want it?” Elizabeth asked out of the blue.

Jason looked at her in shock. “Of course I want this baby. What makes you think that I wouldn’t especially after...” Elizabeth placed her hand over his mouth to stop the rest of his words.

“Jason a baby is a lifetime commitment? I just want you to be sure you know what you’re getting yourself into?” Elizabeth said nervously.

“Elizabeth, I know a baby is big responsibility, one that I would never walk away from. I want to be in this baby’s life no matter what!” Jason promised.

Elizabeth felt a tear run down her cheek. “I would never keep you from your child Jason,” Elizabeth said, reaching for his shirt slipping it own.

“I know that,” Jason said confused by the sudden change in her.

“Now what?” Elizabeth asked, as Lucky’s face flashed in her head suddenly. But she was surprised by the lack of guilt. “What’s going to happen now? Am I going to wake up one morning and you’ll be gone Jason? I know you love me and I love you. What happens next?” Elizabeth asked
desperately.

Jason ran his hand thru his hair. “I love you and I promise, that I won’t ever leave you without explaining myself first,” Jason said.

Elizabeth’s heart fell down into her stomach, because the only promise she wanted him to make was the one that he couldn’t that he would never leave. She wondered if they really could be a family, she and Jason and their unborn child.

Carly shifted Michael in her arms, as she stared at the hotel clerk. “What do mean you have not rooms available? Do you know who I am?” Carly asked as Michael started to cry sensing his mother’s distress.

The clerk raised his brow in surprise, but the looked on his face was clear. She could have been the Queen of England and he still wouldn’t have any rooms. “You can rest assured that Edward Quartermaine will hear about this.” Carly vowed before walking away. “Shhh...It’s okay baby.” She said looking down at Michael when she walked right into him.

“I’m sorry,” she said before looking up.

“It’s all right? What are you doing back in town?” He asked. He had been listening to her conservation with the clerk.

“None of your business,” She replied. She tried to step around him, but he quickly moved in front of her stopping her escape.

“Look I couldn’t help but overhear. It’s late. I know a place you can stay.” He said.

Carly looked at him and sighed. She was tried and Michael was heavy and all she wanted was to sleep. She didn’t care what he was offering and she wasn’t in any shape to refuse his offer.
“Where?” She asked.

“Come on,” He said not answering her question. He took her bag out of her hand.

She watched him for a few seconds, as she thought of why he would he be willing to help her. He had never liked her and she was pretty sure he was hurting too.

“Are you coming or not?” He called.

“Yeah.”

Alexis pushed open the penthouse door. She was frightened by what she might find. She sighed in relief as she saw him sitting on the couch in the darkness. She reached to turn on a lamp but the roar of his voice stopped her.

“Don’t!”

“Sonny, are you okay?” Alexis asked, as she sat down on the coffee table in front of him.  Their knees barely touching, she gently touched his face. A sob he had been holding back escaped.  “I’m so sorry,” she said again, as he rubbed his face against her soft hands.

“Don’t be. You didn’t hurt Carly, I did.” Sonny sobbed.

Alexis felt tears threaten to fall, but she kept them inside. “It’s all my fault. All this is my fault. I should have told you about Alexander a long time ago.” Alexis said not realizing she had called her son by his name until she saw the look of surprise on Sonny face.

She closed her eyes, knowing the moment of truth had arrived. He needed to know the truth as much she needed to tell it. Her ghosts had been haunting her long enough. It was time to bury them for good, no matter what.
