| Part One Sonny tossed back the last of his drink. It was after midnight and was proving to be another sleepless night. Thoughts whirled through his consciousness like a tornado, turning everything upside down. Carly, Michael and Alexis were scattered in different places in his heart. The realization that Alexis had somehow crept into his thoughts surprised him and left him even more awake than before. How it had happened was a mystery to him, but Alexis was there when he closed his eyes in an attempt to sleep. He could see her beautiful face and hear her laughter ringing in his ears. "Get a grip Corinthos, this is Alexis for God's sake!" he scolded himself. A smiled tugged at his lips, as he remembered how nervous she was about their dinner date earlier. Both of them were a little lonely and didn't want to spend another night alone, so he had invited her to dinner. They were both very aware of their changing relationship but neither of them was willing to address just what was happening between them. Sonny's thoughts ended when Johnny knocked and ducked his head inside the penthouse. "Miss Davis to see you boss." Sonny turned in the direction of the door, making eye contract with her immediately. "It's alright Johnny," Sonny said his eyes never leaving hers. Once Johnny had closed the door, leaving them alone, he questioned her reasons for being there. Have you ever loved somebody so much It makes you cry Have you ever needed something so bad You can't sleep at night Have you ever tried the words But they don't come out right Have you ever, have you ever "Has something happened to Kristina?" Alexis felt foolish for disturbing him so late at night. She had no legitimate reason for being there other than an intense desire to feel his lips on hers again. "No Kristina is fine," she hastily explained. "I…I couldn't sleep." She fumbled over her words, the intensity behind those night sky eyes of his distracting her. She couldn't explain why Sonny had the ability to make her want to live reckless and carefree. Those things were never an option for her until their friendship. "I'm not even sure, why I came," she whispered, her eyes closing in confusion. Sonny smiled at the look on her face. She was just as perplexed by the attraction between them as he was. "I couldn't sleep either, so it's fine." "Any reason for your sleeplessness?" Alexis questioned softly, moving from her spot near the front door, feeling better about her decision. Sonny flashed a sheepish smiled, his dimples showing proudly. "Don't know really, a lot on my mind I guess," he replied with a shrug of his shoulders. He wasn't sure if she was ready to hear that she was the main reason for his sleepless tonight. "Carly?" Alexis guessed, knowing that she was a subject he didn't want to discuss. "Would you care for a drink?" he asked changing the topic. "If you don't want talk about it, you could just say so Sonny," Alexis said, slight disappointment evident in her voice. "It's not Carly that's causing my insomnia. Do you really want to know what's been keeping me awake, Alexis?" Sonny challenged, his eyes burning with a longing which caused her to tremble. Have you ever been in love Been in love so bad You'd do anything to make them understand Have you ever had someone steal your heart away You'd give anything to make them feel the same Have you ever searched for words to get you in their heart But you don't know what to say And you don't know where to start Alexis felt her hands shake slightly as her heart tightened in pure fear. Something in his voice told her that this conversation would change everything between them. Sonny was just as scared as she was, she could see it in his eyes. They were mirrors of her own. "Is there a reason, why I shouldn't? Please don't tell me you've done something illegal that I'll be reading about in the morning paper." She knew that wasn't the case, but she was nervous and tended to ramble to avoid the real issues. His eyebrow arched in amusement. "Of course not. But that may be easier for you to deal with than what I have to say," he answered, walking toward her. "Maybe we should talk about this in the morning," she said quickly, backing away from him. "I think we should talk now. We're both here and you know the reason neither of us can sleep." Have you ever loved somebody so much It makes you cry Have you ever needed something so bad You can't sleep at night Have you ever tried to find the words But they don't come out right Have you ever, have you ever "I'm worried about my family and the situation with Ned. That's the only reason I'm having trouble sleeping," she lied. "I don't doubt that you're worried about your family but that's not the only reason for your sleeplessness tonight. It has a lot to do with me and what happened in the car on the way home." Flashback Sonny and Alexis were enjoying their dinner. Alexis looked up to find Sonny's attention drawn to the bar. She turned to see what had him so captivated and regretted it instantly, finding Ned's angry eyes on her. "You want to leave?" Sonny asked softly. "Excuse me for a minute. I need to speak to him," Alexis said pushing her chair back from the table. "Alexis," Sonny called. "Now doesn't look like a good time." She knew Sonny was right. "There never is when it comes to Ned." Sonny watched her walk to the man she loved with all her heart. He shook his head with disgust. Ashton was a damn fool for not loving and accepting her for the woman she was. His eyes were glued to them, he couldn't tear them away from her. He couldn't hear what was being said but he could tell by the wounded look on her face that it wasn't good. "Ned, I'm sorry about earlier," Alexis tried. "Yeah, you look really sorry," Ned spat out, looking in the direction of Sonny. "Please don't make this about Sonny. We both know it has nothing to do with him. This is about you wanting to know about and control everything in my life," Alexis said, barely controlling the urge to yell at him. "I don't want to control you, I just want to love you." "On your terms, Ned. I've spent my whole life doing things that others wanted and expected from me. I won't just settle or sit back and let everyone else make decisions about my life. My work is important to me and I won't let anyone take that away from me. So if you can't accept me, Alexis Davis, Attorney and Gatekeeper, then we really don't have any more to say to one another." "I'm sorry that you feel like I'm trying to run your life. But you made a big mistake by agreeing to be Sonny's lawyer and his friend and whatever else the two of you have become," Ned said, his voice mixed with rage and sadness. He brushed past her without looking back. She stood there with her eyes closed and her heart pounding. She knew that her and Ned were finished and it saddened her. She didn't know how things had gotten to this point. They had both changed and not necessarily for the better. Ned had become a controlling, bossy man. The kind of man she detested. "You okay?" "I'm fine. Can we get out of here? I lost my appetite for dessert, I hope you don't mind," Alexis whispered, a tear slipping down her cheek before she could brush it away. "No problem, let's blow this joint!" Sonny smiled, his dimples showing in mischief Alexis rolled her eyes, amused with his choice of words. Limo Alexis fidgeted with the buttons of her jacket nervously as Sonny fixed himself a drink. He had offered her one but she declined. "What did Ashton say?" Sonny finally asked. He couldn't stand seeing her looking so hurt and confused. "Nothing new or worth talking about," she answered, not wanting to talk about her feelings for Ned at the moment. "You know when you're ready to talk, I'll be around to listen." "Thanks, you're a good friend. But I really don't want to talk right now," she whispered moving closer to him. She had left the door open for the question. Did he have enough courage to take the leap? Sonny swallowed the last of his drink. "Well, what would you like to do right now?" His voice was husky with something. "This," she whispered before claiming his surprised mouth. His lips parted, obeying a will more powerful then his own. Her tongue was there, seeking and finding his. She tasted him thoroughly until they broke apart gasping for breath. He pressed his open mouth against a particularly sensitive spot behind her ear and she moaned softly. She ran her hands through his hair, down his back, wanting to touch as much of him as she could. He made his way down her neck, placing tiny biting kisses on her sensitive skin. "Your skin, it so soft." His hands were caressing and exploring her body. She hadn't felt so alive! End of Flashback "It was just a kiss Sonny. I was upset about Ned. I was out of line." "Was it?" Sonny challenged. "Hmm?" Alexis asked with a frown. He had a way of making her feel foolish. "Was it just a kiss?" he whispered, touching her lips gently with his fingertips. "‘Cause I think it was something more." Alexis' heart pounded in her chest at a rapid pace. The simplest touch had her senses on overload and she couldn't let herself think about how wonderful his hands would feel on other places. "Sonny," she sighed his name, her eyes pleading with him not to go places they both might regret. "Alexis, you can't keep fighting this thing between us. We both want this, so why can't you just let things happen. Just feel!" What do I gotta do to get you in my arms baby What do I gotta do to get in your heart To make you understand how I need you next to me Gotta get you in my world 'Coz baby I can't sleep "I don't know if I can do that Sonny. My feelings are something I'm not comfortable expressing. You know that." Alexis moved out of his reach and away from his comforting touches. Having him so close to her and touching her was making her weak and her mind was clouding with desire. Sonny wasn't sure if what they were doing was right either, but he knew that he hadn't felt this good about something in a long time. Alexis was his friend and he respected her. He was also attracted to her and that kiss awakened feelings in him that had lain dormant for so long. "Expressing my feelings isn't easy for me either. But whatever this is between us, is too strong to be denied. When you kissed me tonight, it was like I discovered a part of myself I didn't even know existed." Tears appeared in the corner of her eyes. His words had touched her so much. She knew he understood her on levels that no one else did or even could but was that love or just friendship? Sonny moved closer to Alexis, taking her hands in his. He needed to make her understand that she was important to him, that this wasn't just physical. "I know you have a hard time letting your guard down and revealing your true feelings, but sometimes you have to take risks. I really hope you have the courage to explore what could be between us." Sonny leaned into Alexis. Their eyes were locked and she couldn't look away from the dark pools of his eyes. As his face inched closer, she unconsciously licked her lips and her eyes closed. She knew he was right. Things between them had been changing and this was the next step. Sonny claimed her mouth, her lips parting and welcoming his invading tongue. In that moment nothing else mattered but what was happening between them. His kisses became bolder and more demanding. She was lost in her growing desire for this man, whom she'd always found was a challenge. His hands explored her body coming to rest on the buttons of her blouse. "I want you so much Alexis. Let me love you." His eyes burned with passion and lust for her. She swallowed hard, knowing there was no turning back. And she realized that she didn't want to. For the first time in her life, she would be free. She wouldn't have to think or analyze or consider the consequences. She could be Alexis and let down her barriers. She could just feel! Have you ever loved somebody so much It makes you cry Have you ever needed something so bad You can't sleep at night Have you ever tried the words But they don't come out right Have you ever, have you ever Song used "Have You Ever" by Brandy The End! |
