Chapter 5 |
Chapter 4 “Carly, what are you talking about? Who killed someone?” Sonny asked. He had never seen his wife look so frightened before. Carly pulled away quickly, now fully awake. She was confused about what she had said in her dreamstate but the look in Sonny’s eyes told her it was something that she shouldn’t have. “Talk to me,” he pleaded, softly taking her hands into his. “I’m worried about you.” “Why Sonny, you can’t forgive me, so why sit here and act like you give a damn!” Carly yelled, feeling the walls closing in on her. She needed to get herself together and she couldn’t do that with Sonny there. Sonny was deeply hurt by her words. Didn’t she know that she was his life? And the reason he couldn’t forgive her was because he loved her so much but the pain of her betrayal ran deep. “I want to forgive you, and I want to help you. Tell me what has you so frightened.” “But you can’t forgive me, can you?” Carly asked knowing the answer she would receive. Sonny released her hand and stood up. She watched as he walked to the window. Carly knew she was pushing things between them. She had hurt him deeply by going to Roy for help. And the best thing would be for her to give him time and space. But patience wasn’t in Carly’s vocabulary. He loved Carly. Even after everything she had done to him, his heart still ached for her. Sonny leaned his face against the cool window. His emotions were whirling around him. He wanted to be with her but his pride won out. He turned to her and spoke the words that would bring them more tears. “No, I can’t forget what you did Carly. And I probably won’t ever be able to trust you fully again.” Sonny watched Carly’s face, the emotions were clear: disappointment and disgust with his pride. He watched tears stream from her eyes. He closed his eyes to keep his tears at bay. “I’m sorry,” Carly said hugging herself and looking away from him. “So am I.” He replied looking back out the window. “I still want to be here for you.” “I’m okay. I just want to be alone. Please, just go!” Carly said, the anger she wanted to keep buried coming through in her voice. “Carly,” Sonny tried knowing that she was upset with him. That was the last thing he wanted to do. “Just go!” “If you need anything....” “I won’t!” Carly said looking at him angrily. She knew in her heart she had no right to be this mad at him. After all, she was the one that betrayed his trust. But she couldn’t help it, she knew Sonny still loved her and wanted her back. I won’t ever betray you again. Give me … give us another chance. She silently begged. They held each other's gaze for several minutes before Sonny finally turned and walked out of the room. Once the door was shut Carly trembled remembering her nightmare. “Why are you haunting me again?” she murmured as images of a gun covered in blood flashed in her conscience. Carly cursed Skye, blaming all her troubles on her sister's appearance in Port Charles. She had finally given up hope of being reunited with her beloved sister. “Why now?” she wondered out loud. “Why what?” Skye asked from the doorway. Carly gave a surprised yelp not expecting to find her sister standing there. “Go way Skye!” Carly said in a harsh voice. She didn’t want to have to deal with her. “Sorry Caroline, but we have to talk,” Skye stated walking further into the room. “I don’t want to talk to you!” Carly said pulling the covers up around her neck as another chill passed through her. Skye looked at her sister lovingly. Carly’s anger melted, when her eyes met her sisters, seeing love and worry in them. She was reminded of their childhood. Of the hours spent crying, talking, and dreaming. “Please Caroline, I need you to understand that I didn’t forget about you. I couldn’t ever forget the only person that has ever loved me for me.” “Then why didn’t you come back?” Carly asked desperately, her eyes and voice taking on a child like manner. “I really needed you!” Carly sobbed. “He wouldn’t let me,” Skye cried, knowing what Caroline had needed her for. “What?” “Mitch. I came back for you Caroline, but he stopped me from getting to you,” Skye admitted in shame. A part of her wondered if there was something more she could have done differently. But she was only eighteen herself. No one would have believed her. Tears filled Carly eyes upon hearing the shame and pain in Skye's voice. Perhaps she had misjudged her sister. “What did he do?” “I came back for you a month after I left. I had a job and a small apartment. It wasn't been much, but at least we would have been together and you would have been far away from him. I had it all planned out.” “But he threatened you, didn’t he?” Tears filled Skye's eyes as memories of that dreadful day came back in a horrifying rush. Skye looked at her watch, sure that both her parents would be at work. She would be able to get Caroline's things and go to the school to pick her up. And by the time school got out, she and Caroline would be far away. Skye stepped into the house and was quickly overtaken by the smell of stale cigarettes and beer. “Son of a bitch!” she breathed wrinkling her nose. She made her way toward her old bedroom. She smiled at the neat room, sure it was the cleanest room in the house. She quickly started packing. She was almost finished when she realized she wasn’t alone. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he asked from the doorway. Skye took a shaky breath before facing her father. “I came for my sister,” she stated in a matter of fact tone. The statement amused Mitch Benson. He laughed and moved into the room, slamming the door behind him. “You’re not taking Caroline anywhere.” Skye's heart started pounding in her chest, seeing pure evil shining in his eyes. “There is no way in hell I’m leaving her here,” Skye said holding her ground. Her scream was lost on Mitch, as he grabbed her and threw her against the door. “What makes you think I’m letting you leave?” Skye closed her eyes, smelling the alcohol on his breath. “Let me go.” she screamed while trying to push him away. “I’ve missed you,” Mitch whispered, running his finger down the side of her face. “No,” Skye sobbed as his hands started to roam her trembling body. “Please, daddy don’t!” “What did he do Skye?” Carly asked her sister but deep down she knew. He had done the same thing to her. “It’s doesn’t matter. I love you Caroline and everything I did was because I loved you. You have to believe that. Please don’t hate me,” Skye begged. “I don’t hate you Skye,” Carly said taking her hand. “You don’t?” Skye questioned, a tear making its journey down her face. “No, I love you Skye. You’re my sister!” Carly smiled, finally giving into the truth buried under years of pain. “I love you too, baby sister,” Skye whispered throwing her arms around Carly happily. |
