Chapter 12 Alexis decided to take Carly home herself. She was worried about her friend and wanted to make sure she really was alright. The drive to the penthouse was done in silence. Once inside, Carly looked around the room as memories of David and Francis lying on the floor covered in blood replayed in her mind. "Carly, are you alright?" "No," Carly whispered, closing her eyes to try and erase the images from her mind. "I know you’re scared but you have to believe that Michael will be home soon. The police are working around the clock. And more importantly Sonny has all of his men out searching too," Alexis once again noticed how angry Carly became when she mentioned Sonny. "If it wasn't for Sonny, Michael would be safe. This is all his fault," Carly said, sitting down on the couch. Alexis watched her friend for a few minutes, trying to figure out what was happening with her and Sonny. Alexis joined Carly on the couch. "What's going on with you two?" Carly turned to Alexis and gave her a look that was a mixture of pain and confusion. Carly didn't speak. She didn't know how to put her feeling into words. "Carly?" "Lex, I don't know." "I think you do," Alexis replied. Carly wasn't ready to admit her feeling for Sonny and decided that she would much rather talk about Alexis and her new, sexy husband. "So what happened in Vegas?" Carly asked hoping that Alexis would drop the subject of Sonny. "Nice try Carly. If you don't want to tell me about you and Sonny, that’s fine," Alexis said getting up from the couch and heading for the door. "Lex, I really don't know how I feel. Okay!" Carly yelled jumping off the couch. "I mean Lex, I think about all the people I have lost because of Sonny and I hate him for it." "Hate? Is that all you feel when he looks into your eyes Carly?" Alexis asked. "No..." But before Carly could explain her answer, Alexis’s cell phone starting ringing. "Damn, I’m sorry but I really need to get that." "Alexis Davis." "Don't you mean Alexis Davis-Jacks ?" Jax asked playfully. "Jax?" "Yeah it's me. Look, I was wondering if you were going to be at your apartment soon. There is something really important that I need to tell you." Alexis looked at Carly. She wanted to spent more time with her and she had a feeling that Carly really needed her right now. "Well I'm not sure how long I’ll be Jax," Alexis replied. Carly mouthed out the words ‘Go be with Jax. I'm fine.’ Alexis placed her hand over the mouth piece of her phone. "Are you sure you’re alright? "Yes, I'm fine." "Jax, I’ll be at the apartment in 15 minutes." * * * * * Lucky was lying on his bed waiting for Emily to come out of the bathroom. He was determined to find out what had happened to her. She had always been very secretive about her family life. He wanted to help her but he only knew that Hank Bowman was dead. Lucky was so lost in his worry for Emily, that he hadn’t noticed her emerge from the bathroom wearing one his shirts. "Lucky." Emily walked to the bed and lay down beside him. He started to get up but Emily stopped him. "Lucky, you don't have sleep on the floor. This is your bed." "It's okay Em, take the bed. I’ll be fine on the floor," he replied. Emily placed a hand on his shoulder. "Please Lucky, I don't want to sleep alone." "Are you sure?" Lucky asked. "Of course. We’re friends. There’s no reason why we can't share this bed,” she explained. Lucky joined Emily on the bed but sleep was the last thing on either of their minds. "You know I can't help if you don’t tell me what happened," Lucky said breaking the silence. "I know Lucky," was all Emily said as she closed her eyes and sleep fell upon her. "Emily?" Lucky rolled over to find her asleep. He shook his head and kissed her cheek. * * * * * Sonny was standing outside of the penthouse trying to find the right words. He didn't know how he was going to tell Carly what Mac had told him about Hank Bowen. Sonny opened the door. He smiled at the sight before him. Carly was sleeping on the couch and he didn't have the heart or the courage to wake her. He knew what he had to tell her, would only make her hate him more. * * * * * Alexis had just walked into her apartment and was checking her messages when he knocked. "Come in, it's open," she called. "Hi," Jax said, looked around her apartment. "Nice place." "Thanks," Alexis replied as she was once again reminded of how little they knew about each other. "So you said you had something to tell me?" "Can we sit please?" Jax asked, as he took Alexis’s hand and led her to the couch. "Jax is something wrong?" "No not really, I'm just not sure where to begin." "Please just tell me!" "I haven't been totally honest with you. Do you remember that day in my office when I told you my father blackmailed me into finding a wife?" Alexis only nodded her head. Jax continued. "What I didn't tell you was why he was doing it.” Jax closed his eyes knowing there was no turning back. "Alexis, three years ago my wife died while giving birth to my daughter, Maddie. I know I should have told you about Maddie before now. And I’m sorry." Alexis was shocked and hurt that Jax hadn’t told her about his daughter. Even when he told her that he wanted a real marriage, he had kept the truth from her. "Why didn't you tell me, Jax?" "I didn't want to push you away. You seem so scared of the idea of marriage and I just figured you felt the same way about motherhood." "So you decided to just keep it from me until you didn't have any other choice, right?" Alexis yelled. Jax was right. She was terrified of motherhood but he still should have been honest with her. "It's wasn't like that, Alexis," he tried to explain. "Really? Then how was it, Jax, because I would really like to understand." "I didn't tell you because I didn't want to lose you. After my wife died, I stopped caring. My life was all about working and making money. My father saw what my life was becoming and decided to do something about it. When I asked you to marry me, it was just a deal. I wasn't really telling you about my life. And then when it started to become more, I was too afraid that you would hate me for not be honest with you, so I kept putting it off. Alexis, I love you and I never wanted to hurt you. You have to believe that." Alexis only looked at Jax. She had never felt so loved before in her life and she was just about to tell him just that when there was a knock at the door. Alexis opened the door and was pulled into a passionate kiss. Alexis pulled away breathless. "Ned?" "Did you miss me, baby?" Ned asked as he walked further into her apartment. He stopped when he saw Jax. "Who is he?" "I could ask you the same thing," Jax replied. "Alexis?" both men called at the same time. * * * * * The man was looking out the plane window. Soon he would be in Port Charles. The last place he wanted to be. He had left to protect his family and now he was returning to do the same. He knew that Helena knew the truth about Carly, that she was his daughter. "Mr. Cassadine, we will be landing soon," the pilot said. "Thank you." |
