Prologue

Alexis Davis walked down the long hallway. She was so angry at the man she was about to meet. Jasper Jacks was trying to takeover her family company, Cassadine Industries. It was the only thing she had left and she promised her brother that she would take care of Nikolas. Cassadine Industries was his future and she wasn't about to let some corporate raider come in and take it all away.

John Jacks paced in his son's office waiting to talk to him. He was worried about Jax. It seemed all he thought about was business. He didn't have time for fun any more. Not since his wife died. John decided to take matters into his own hands.

"Dad, what are you doing here?" Jax asked, as he closed the office door.

"What? I need a reason to visit my son?" John replied in a hurt voice.

Carly knelt on the ground by her husband's grave. She ran her hand across his name in the stone, as tears slid down her cheeks. "We have a beautiful little boy," Carly said, as she wiped a tear away.

Carly was about to say more but she sensed his presence before he placed his hands on her shoulders. "What are you doing here?" Carly whispered.

"I wanted to make sure you were alright." Carly turned to look at the man standing behind her.

"Why did you do this to me?" she asked.

"Carly let me drive you home. Please!" Sonny pleaded while looking at his best friend's name on the headstone.  Sonny knew what she meant. Jason was dead because of him. "I meant what I said last night. I want to marry you and be a father to Michael."

Tears filled Carly's eyes again. She wasn't sure if she was crying for Jason or for the man standing in front of her and seeing the pain of Jason's death in his eyes. And for the first time, she saw the guilt, as well.

Jax sat in his office in shock after what his father had just done to him. He couldn't believe his own father would blackmail him.  He didn't get to give his father's ultimatum much more thought as his office door opened.

"Jasper Jacks?" Alexis asked.

"Yes, and you must be Miss Davis," Jax said, while offering her his most charming smile.

"What hell do you think you're doing, Mr. Jacks?!" Alexis asked, as she looked around his office, waiting for him to answer her question.

Jax looked at the woman in front of him. She was beautiful and had fire in her eyes, just the kind of woman his father would want as a daughter in law. Suddenly he knew how to make his father happy and hold on to his business.

Alexis was standing in front of his desk with her hands on her hips waiting for to him to say something.

"Miss Davis, I'm willing to back off and leave Cassadine Industries alone. But there's something I need from you."

"What?" Alexis asked, thinking that maybe he needed an attorney. Nothing could prepare her for what he asked of her.  Alexis's mouth dropped open in shock, as she regarded the man in front of her. Surely he had lost his mind!

"WHAT?"

Jax laughed at the look on her face. She was totally shocked, as she should be. He could hardly believe that he was going through with the idea. "I said, I'll leave your family business alone, if you marry me!!"
