You walk across the sand, and approach the ladder that leads up to a ledge. Fearing to climb all the way up for no reason, you call out, "Anybody home?"
A sandy-haired lad, perhaps 17 turns, appears at the edge. "Come on up!" he calls to you, and you start to climb. It's a bit farther up than it looks, but once you reach the ledge, the view is spectacular.
The lad extends a hand in greeting. "My name is Sirion." Sirion leads you into the cave, brightly lit by sun streaming into the opening. There are several unfinished paintings lying flat to dry in what appears to have once been a dragon's bed. "I think this cave was once a dragon's weyr." Sirion says, voicing your exact thoughts. "I'm an artist... They say I have real talent. If I see something once, I can reproduce it in the finest of detail." You stoop to examine one of the paintings. The bronze dragon looks so real, you almost expect him to reach out and touch you. But it doesn't. Sirion, on the other hand, does. His hand on your shoulder, he snatches the painting off the stone couch. Taking it over to the bench, he takes out a fine brush, and signs his name on the bottom. "You seem to like this one so much," he says, "I want you to have it." Smiling, you accept. You turn to leave the artist's weyr, and turn back to him. Sirion grins. "Did I remember to tell you that a rider said I might get to be a candidate at Sapphire Weyr? It inspires me to even think about it." Sirion waves farewell to you as you decend the ladder, and he returns to his work.
