"TO BE"


da/desu: used to indicate the state of being so (or = to):

example: I am a man: watashi wa otoko DA/DESU

aru/arimasu: location or existence of a non-living thing.

example: the book is there: hon wa soko ni ARU/ARIMASU

iru/imasu: location or existence of living things (other than plants).

example: the girl is in the house: shoojo wa uchi ni IRU/IMASU

1-14: ichi ni san shi go roku shichi hachi kyuu juu juuichi juuni juusan juushi
( teens are formed by using 10 and then the number: 17= juu+shichi )
20-30: nijuu nijuuichi nijuuni nijuusan, etc... 30=sanjuu
( it can be easily seen how to form numbers 20-99 )
