| Little is known for certain the origins of the orc, who are said to be the footsoldiers of the enemy. It has been suggested that the orc originated from elves. It was said that elves had been captured and transformed into the evil beasts they are. They were said to be stout, crude creatures that hated the sunlight and dwelt in darkness. They are feircesome looking creatures with the will to destroy and take orders from whoever is ruling them. There can be thousands of the these soldiers and have been rumored to be hard to defeat. But where they got their name is interesting as well. According to the common tongue the word 'orc' is referred to a foul type of person. There are several theories where the "orc" name came from. One suggests that the word had come from Old English strongly suggesting a Mannish origin, though in the Old English version the name 'orc' meant demon. Some say that orcs fastened the name themselves instead of man inventing the name. And the last theory is that the Elves had given this name to the beasts. That it had originiated from their language and was later reestablished by man, meaning the Elvish word Orch was later changed to Orc. |
