John was born on March 5, 1856 in Melby, Alvsborgs County, Vastergotland, Sweden.  He came from Trayked, Sweden to Denmark Township about 1870.

John settled in Denmark Township on the "Maple Grove Farm" consisting of 138.65 acres, as shown on the 1901 Denmark Township Plat Map.  At that time he also owned an additional 64.88 acres in Denmark Township along the St. Croix River.  By 1916 John had sold the St. Croix River property and deeded 80.25 acres of the Maple Grove Farm to his son, Charles A. Anderson.  He had also purchased an additional 100 acres just west of the Maple Grove Farm and moved his homestead to that site.

John married Ellen Siebolds, the daughter of Frederick and Ida Siebolds, about March 15, 1976 and they had four children: Fred, Charles, Ida and Irving.

From what we understand, John and Ellen Anderson helped many early settlers through some tough times when they first came to Minnesota.  John and Ellen not only furnished the new immigrants with a temporary home, but assisted many financially.  Of course, as far as I can determine, many of those early settlers were most likely related one way or another to either John Anderson or his wife, Ellen (Siebolds).

As of the 1910 Federal Census for Denmark, Washington, MN, John Ellen and their son Irving lived on the new homestead site.

Their son, Irving, was born February 13, 1898 (d. Dec. 14, 1983 and is not buried in Afton).  He married Hattie Radke about Sept of 1917.  As of the 1920 Federal Census, Irving, Hattie, and one daughter, Ida (born about 1918 and then age 2), lived with Ellen Anderson, Irving's mother.  Irving and his family moved to North St. Paul before the 1930 Federal Census, where he worked as a carpenter and built his family a lovely home.  I believe that Irving and Hattie had two more daughters and two sons.  Their sons were Calvin, born April 22, 1929 (d. March 15, 1970) and Irving Jr., born August 22, 1927 (d. Feb 2, 1974).  If I am not mistaken, one daughter was named Lucille.  I will add to this information as it becomes available.

See Ellen Anderson, Fred Anderson, Ida Anderson, Charles Anderson, Hilma Anderson, Laurel Anderson, and Bernice Anderson, as well as my SIebolds and Lind ancestors, all residing on the beautiful and peaceful grounds of Evergreen, for further information on the Anderson family and beyond.
