Reverend August Olson | ||||||
August was born in Guttenberg, Sweden in 1827. He traveled back and forth between New York and Sweden. During the Civil War he engaged on the ship "John Wesley", which was a battleship used as a house or worship. In 1864 he returned to Sweden as a missionary of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1866 he came to St. Paul and served several churches in Minnesota and retired with his second wife Albertine Johnson and family to farm on Swede Hill. Their children were Albert, Augusta, Elizabeth, Hannah, Mary, Arthur, and Ernest. August died in 1906. | ||||||
August Olson was the son of Olaus Olsson (1795-?) Skarby, Sweden, and Janna Andreasdotter (1795-1854). His siblings were Anders, Carl, Janna, and Andreas. August's first wife was Caroline Gustava Johansdotter (1829-1862) Skarby, Sweden. Their children together were: John Oscar Olson (1851-1921) Skarby-died Stillwater, MN Albert Gotftrid (1856-?) twin 1 Mauritz Hjalmar (1856-?) twin 2 Augusta Caroline (1860-1863) Skarby-Skarby, Sweden August's 3 sons followed him to the U.S. after his wife and daughter died. They became the step-sons of his second wife, Albertina Johnson, all living on the family farm in Afton until the boys married. John Oscar had 9 children, of which one or two may be buried in Afton. |
