| Came to Afton in 1890, followed by his wife Mathilda and three children. They had three more children after their arrival. They farmed, raised cows, chickens, hogs, and some crops. In July 1904, Nellie, Edith, and Ellen, ages 15, 13, and 11, went to the river to swin after berry picking. The girls all drowned after being sweft into a drop-off by the waves of a large steamer. The remaining children were William, Edwin, and Edna. They farmed until the 1940s. | ||||
