Brief Early History of School

The education of children living in Valley View has existed since 1873. At that time it was customary in small towns for the education of children to be governed locally.
An election
was held on
where the school campus is still located today.
The first graduating class was in 1907. These students graduated at that time in the 10th grade. Prior to that time the students just quit when they had completed the work that the school offered. It was not until 1934 when the eleventh grade began.

faculty and all the seniors that have graduated from the
An annual banquet is held every year during the Christmas holidays and ex-seniors and ex-teachers from far and wide are always present to renew old acquaintances, and on many of the banquet night’s members of the first graduating classes have been present.
The officers that have served in this organization through the years are named below:

1937. President, Miss Hazel Nichols; vice-president, Roy Godwin, secretary-treasurer, Mrs. R. V. Robinson.
1938. President, Leroy Robinson; vice-president, J. G. Steadman; and secretary-treasurer, Miss Billye Sue Hunter.
1939. President, Mrs. John Lowe; vice-president, Orville Roane; secretary-treasurer, Miss Willie B. McCuistion.
1940. President, Jimmie Nichols; vice-president, Mrs. J. C. Arrington; secretary-treasurer, Gladys Idell; historian, Mrs. Elizabeth Lowe.

The history is lost for many years until 1974. At that time the date had changed to be the Saturday before Easter. The following will be what I have found at this time. (NLN)

The Welcome
was given by X & R President, John Roane (Class of 1964). The invocation was given by Brother Glen
Kersey, First Baptist Church Minister.
Mary Hudspeth Terry (Class of 1980) introduced her sister, Susan
Hudspeth Smith (Class of 1983), Principle of Valley View Elementary as the
speaker. Susan gave an interesting talk
about all the improvements and changes taking place within the Valley View
School System. Her talk was very
enjoyable.

Minutes: We enjoyed
the music provided by Bonny Prescher during our
meal. The speaker was Dan Clifton. Dan was the first person to win state in an
athletic event at Valley View. He won
state in the mile run. His talk was
about what it was like for a boy who was raised on a dairy farm in
The X & R Award was presented to David Clifton, Class of 1961.
Business Meeting: All officers will hold office for the 2008 Banquet.
A special honor was given to the 1936 Football team members who were present. Living members are; C. L. McCuistion, Jack Ward, J. A. Wylie, Dan Flint Jr., Cleo Butts. Members able to attend were C. L. McCuistion, J. A. Wylie, Dan Flint Jr. (Mr. Jack Ward became ill on his way to the banquet.) Each of the team members was given a framed picture of the team with all team members named.
The Class of 1967 had the highest percentage of class members present.
