Anna Elizabeth "Ann" McGinness (Hughes-Sherry)

Ann died September 1, 1969.  She was first married to James "Jim" Hughes, and later married Clarence Sherry of Columbus, Ohio.  Ann is buried at the city cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.  Jim Hughes reportedly died in Hawaii.

James Leonard McGinness

Leonard was born on Thursday, September 27, 1877 in LaFayette County, Missouri, and died on Wednesday, November 6, 1946 in Higginsville, Missouri.  He married the former Sophia Leas, born in July of 1897 in LaFayette County, Missouri.  Sophia died Thursday, February 4, 1971.

(reportedly) 1939.  Casper came to the United States at age 11.  He died previous to Ellen.  Casper's parents were Henry Leas and Fredericka (nee?) Leas.  Ellen's father was Robert Majors.
2.  Sophia married Ernest Colson in either April of 1947 or April 1948.  She later married DeWilton Robinson b. Tuesday, December 31, 1907.  DeWilton was last reported living at an Odd Fellows nursing home in western Missouri.
3.  Daughter Jane McGinness Remillard has said that her mother was very active in the Church, as well as church missionary work.  She planted and worked in gardens and flowers around her home.

Val was born on Wednesday, September 1, 1948 at the Warrensburg Clinic, Warrensburg, Missouri.  He first married Carmen Caroline Haigh of Florence, South Carolina, born in 1949.  He later married Sharlene Mae York of Columbus, Georgia, born October 24, 1948.  His third wife was Kathyrn Elaine “Kay” Foster of Columbus, Georgia, born June 14, 1955.  He then married Glenda Faye Piland of Phenix City, Alabama, born Thursday, May 28, 1959 at Hunter Air Force Base (now Hunter Army Airfield), adjacent to Savannah, Georgia.

William L. McGinness

W.L. McGinness was born December 4, 1831, and died July 4, 1911.  William, who may have been born in Kentucky, married the former Jane Matthews, following the death of Jane's sister who had been married to him..  According to her grave marker (below), Jane was born in County Antriam, Ireland on August 20, 1839.  She died January 1, 1907

1.  The Matthews family, including the two sisters he would simultaneously marry, came over from Ireland on the ship "The Southern".
2.  It has been said that William.L. lived in or around St. Louis, Missouri at some period in his life.  A census survey shows that William's father was born in Kentucky, and that his paternal grandfather, name unknown, was born in Maryland.
3.  According to Civil War pension books, a William McGinness of St. Louis applied for one.


 

Wilbur Frank "Pat" McGinness

Known as Wilbur in his earlier years, and Pat for most of his life, he was born on Sunday, June 11, 1922 in Missouri, and died in Nashville, Tennessee at Veterans Hospital Thursday, March 29, 1979.  He was first married to the former Gladys Myrtis Alexander, born Tuesday, March 8, 1921, and died Tuesday, April 22, 1969 in a Charleston, South Carolina hospital.  He also married the former Virginia Ann Woodard of Nashville, Tennessee.  She was born Wednesday, September 5, 1923 Robertson County, Tennessee, and died in rural Dickson, Tennessee near Nashville..

1.  While in his twenties, Wilbur attended (then) Warrensburg College, Warrensburg, Missouri, on the G.I. Bill following his World War Two stint with the U.S. Army as a Corporal.  Serving overseas during the war, Wilbur started his military hitch on January 6, 1943, and left the service on October 21, 1945.  He later continued his education by attending law school at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee.  As far as I know, he never practiced law as a profession.
2.  As a youth, and as an adult, Wilbur was active in the Boy Scouts of America.  He was a highly-decorated scout leader in the Nashville, Tennessee area.  During his life he earned the high-ranking awards of "Eagle Scout", "Order of the Arrow", and "Wood Badge".
3.  Wilbur was buried at the Nashville National Cemetery on Gallatin Road in Madison, Tennessee, adjacent to Nashville on April 1, 1976.  He is buried in Section 00 Site 819.
4.  Wife Gladys was daughter of Joe and Fannie Alexander of Timmonsville, Florence County, South Carolina.
5.  Gladys is buried beside her husband of many years, Jacob Augustine "Jake" Ruther, at Pine Grove United Methodist Church in Darlington County, South Carolina near Timmonsville.
6.  Virginia was a daughter of Hugh Claybourne and Susie Carney Woodard.  After retiring from the insurance business in Nashville, she resided in Charlotte, Tennessee near Nashville..
