The Bobfish is an idea i got from a friend at the time, in jewelry class in high school, originally. I think he said he'd seen one around on a car and i thought, with my agnostic leaning at the time, that i ought to have one of my own. I made it a project of mine, and it turned out to be quite simple. I drew the design on sheet metal, cut it out, filed it nice, and then took a ball-peen hammer to it for the scaly texture.
I would wear it around my neck, out around town, and people would ask me what it meant, or "who's bob?"...i might reply "what about bob?", as in the movie..or i'd reply "bob is god"..or a few years later i'd simply reply "i don't know".
Within the last few years i "believe" that i've come to something near a conclusion on the matter. At first i took it as an abbreviation of "Brain over Beliefs". That would mean to trust what your brain had to offer you through a thorough analysis of your senses and current or past caches of knowledge and experience, OVER, what you might've been imprinted/ingrained/taught to believe from/by parents, teachers, friends, family, clergy, and society in general.
After watching the movie about Robert Anton Wilson, "Maybe Logic", i have decided that it may have been just about Robert/Bob all along. Someone may have appreciated R.A.W.'s written works and ideas just as much as i've grown to, and put their dedication to him in a "Jesus/Darwin-fish" type sticker. I think i may eventually make a much larger version of the Bobfish, possibly out of some other material. I would change my design to RAW, as Robert Anton Wilson's name is often abbreviated as such, but i don't want to be considered by anyone as one of those "freaks" who only eat raw foods. I like my fish raw, but the rice i'd like cooked, thank you. Little too crunchy otherwise.
