Most people live their lives looking backwards
They can clearly see their past accomplishments, awards and beautiful people they have dated.
How many of you have a boat? Have you ever steered it by looking back at the wake? Did you notice how crooked the wake is, and then try to straighten it by using the wake to steer by?
How long would you be willing to steer a boat by looking at nothing other than the wake? A minute? An hour? A day? How long would you be able to steer by the wake before you hit something? In Colorado, less than an hour. On the open ocean, less than a month.
However, even people who would be reluctant to steer a boat by looking at nothing but the wake, are more than willing to steer their lives that way.
So few people take the time to turn around and look where they are going. Is it because there is less to see? I think not. I think its because people focus on their past missteps and failures. They become distracted by the things that have passed them by, and they forget to turn around and face the front.
Its sound advice, and many of us heard it in grade school. Turn around and face the front! Your fourth grade teacher was right - Pay attention, face the front.
